Bracketology has us as a 12th seed against Mississippi State out West. Nice to see us in the field of 64, even thought is it only December 11th.

Sorry for my smartass comment before. And I say this as someone who will never go against SIU, but...

SIU making the tournament this year would be the worst possible thing to happen to the program.

It would haven taken 7 years of mediocrity and the Valley being a dumpster fire for Hinson to pull it off. And it would also cement Hinson. He would be able to coach the program until he no longer wanted to.

They simply don't have the talent to compete with anything but 14 to 16 seeds.

So it would be an utterly meaningless tourney appearance where they would take a beating from a 4 to 6 seed in their first game and keep Hinson at SIU long term. It is a lose lose.

NIT would be very good trajectory for the program... making the tournament, fantastic.  Hopefully we can stay healthy, get Fletch back on the court and let's see what happens.  Congrats to our players and coaching staff.  Good start to what looks to be a very fun season for Saluki basketball fans

An NCAA tourney appearance does have value: financial value and most importantly recruiting value. With Wichita and Creighton gone the conference needs a new regular front runner, and a tourney appearance would only help recruiting wise next year and beyond.

He assigns auto-bids from each conference with the highest KenPom rating; he's not saying we are in with an at-large.

Spike, across the last three Saluki Websites over the past several years I have NEVER known u to say a good word about Saluki athletics.  U annoy me about as much as anyone on this site.

I don't think it is possible for a Barry Hinson program to be that.

Again, it literally took 7 years, a team with 7 seniors, and the Valley being the worst it has been in recent memory for SIU to even be in the tourney discussion.

Getting to the tournament is 100% a positive. I’m going to enjoy this season and cheer for the Dawgs because we have a team that is fun to watch. Not a fan of Hinson but would love to see SIU in the tourney.  Next year’s recruiting class looks good, so as long as the product on the floor is quality and we’re making the NCAA tournament I don’t care who the coach is.  I know all the Hinson stats so no need to reply with them, I wish we would’ve moved on from him too but we didn’t so I’d rather focus on the positives with our team instead of wishing SIU doesn’t win a conference title...Go Dawgs!!

Some people hate hinson so much, that they would rather have us lose than see him succeed here.
