We have a great opportunity this week to demonstrate just how high up the mid major food chain we should be placed.
Call me short-sighted, whatever, I don't care. As much as I despise Hinson as our basketball coach (was NOT a fan of the hire from day one), I absolutely want to see SIU take it as far as they can, each and every year. I truly hope we end this season in the NCAA's with a chance to win a game or two.
Knock the talent on this roster all you want, but the facts are this team is old, experienced, and one of the most athletic groups SIU has fielded in a very long time.
Instead of bitching about what may or may not be down the road, maybe just try and enjoy this season a little bit?

While I agree with most of what you said it is still chasing fools gold. the only shot at an NCAA bit is winning in STL.as of now They could go undefeated in the MVC and not get in. If they win at Buffalo it changes everything. Lose at Buffalo and any slim at large hope is gone No it is not fair but it is the way the NCAA now operates

I want to disagree with you a little here and keep in mind I do NOT think Barry can pull this off. For arguments sake though...
If we go 15-3 in conference and lose to Buffalo on the road by 1-9 points and beat Winthrop and Murray I think our at large resume is at least on the bubble.
That would be 24-6 with losses at 2 top 20 programs and a top 20 program at home... The whole quadrant thing would not look great but would they factor in no Armon at least in the first and a team with some solid wins. I realize it would be nothing spectacular but 24-6 (hopefully 26-7 after MVCT) with wins against... Tulsa, St Louis, Murray, Wintrop, Illinois State, Loyola, Bradley, and @ Colorado State could be respectable, we will see how their seasons turn out. Factor in the new NET which at that point would likely be top 40 if we did that in the conference, I think we would have a shot at it. Assuming the 3 conference losses aren't to any of the real cellar dwellers. Do all that and flip the buffalo loss to a win and I would be surprised if we don't get in.
At least we still have a bit of a shot...plus, hoping Buffalo is looking by us as they have to go to Syracuse and Marquette after they play us. Who could blame them, as we really stunk up the Arena in that loss to them.
Getting to the tournament is 100% a positive. I’m going to enjoy this season and cheer for the Dawgs because we have a team that is fun to watch. Not a fan of Hinson but would love to see SIU in the tourney. Next year’s recruiting class looks good, so as long as the product on the floor is quality and we’re making the NCAA tournament I don’t care who the coach is. I know all the Hinson stats so no need to reply with them, I wish we would’ve moved on from him too but we didn’t so I’d rather focus on the positives with our team instead of wishing SIU doesn’t win a conference title...Go Dawgs!!
