It’s funny — despite those numbers, I read a post on the Illinois State message board from someone who was complaining that he recently heard from someone connected to prep basketball in Illinois that Southern’s donors have higher expectations for the basketball program than Illinois State (the firing of Mullins being evidence of that).
Not that I’m surprised by that. If the big donors are like myself, the 2000s are still fresh on their mind.
This report covers just the Men's Basketball program. SIU's overall athletic budget is in the neighborhood of $25 million.
What does 2.25 million cover for basketball

Someone more knowledgable than me might have a better answer, but....

I must confess. I’m in the 10% crowd.
I'd venture to guess it's more closer to 50-50 than people think. The people that disagree with the firing are just very loud now because it's done.
and who would you like as our next HC? D2 HC? D3 HC? JC HC? A top assistant? What are you going to pay him? Also unless we up the anti in getting more money into a Premier program. It’s going to have the same results. Even the late Bobby Knight wouldn’t win here with our present money situation with basketball!
Just saw an ad for Illini basketball trading cards. $64.95 for a set with 60% of all profits going to the NIL. Each box contains 6 packs of 14 cards. There is one autographed card in every 10 packs.

I have no idea. But, the last coach had 0 recruits signed for the upcoming year. That is bad.

How the hell was he supposed to recruit with his contract situation? HS recruits at the level we/he wants aren’t committing to a coach with 1 year left (i.e. recruits with options). Portal was the only way he was going to recruit this year given the situation and that doesn’t open for a week.
@oberkfell tough to sign someone when the other coaches are talking in recruits ear. Saying no extension for Mullins. He may not be around. Are you going to play for a one year coach.Recruiting is a dirty business. There is nothing sacred about doing anything to have a leg up on a player!
