Southern is so far behind in NIL and fund raising compared to other valley schools and it has nothing to do with the area there are plenty of high end alums need someone to figure out how to get them involved

This is true...but who here has seen anything from the groups running the NIL funds...like at all? Very little promotion of the few events they put on and no real out reach to the broader donor community (at least that I've seen). Maybe they've been more active with the big donors? In any case, whoever is managing this collective sure isn't helping much.

Hill just recently posted something about getting people to donate to the Football collective citing the ever changing landscape of NIL and the need to be competitive, but that's the first thing I've seen about that NIL in quite some time.

I get at this level you can't afford to have a full staff/team like the big schools, but we have to do better than this.

So I guess the Murray donors don't care about win/loss records.

The lack of funding also has a lot to do with Chancellor Lane. I have heard from Athletics Employees that many of them are not too found of Lane. I don't think he forks over much money in the budget for them. Also, the main fundraising gal for athletics switched jobs around November 2022. So there hasn't really been anyone in charge of that in Athletics until now (Kat). Sure, someone from the Foundation was working on it but having someone at the Foundation and actually in athletics is different.

With so many alumni in the state on Illinois. A $120 donation a year (dinner for 2 cost) to NIL “ cooperative “ and you reach 50,000 alums. You get 6 million dollars. Even if you hit 25,000 alums you still pull in 3million.
Maybe we should look at it that way. Why rely on 4-5 donor dollars. When you have thousands out there.

because there aren’t thousands out there. Yeah, there’s that many alumni, but most people couldn’t care less about sports, and the ones that do don’t necessarily care about college sports, and those that do not all are Saluki fans.

@quatroschallengesaluki

then go after the alums that are interested. there are has to be enough alumni ou ther that would contribute $120 a year for NIL. if not we have a bigger problem then finding a new coach.. the SIU foundation has a whole list of alums along with the alumni association. It cannot be that tough to ask all your alums to contribute and if the rate of the return is 10% that is 10% more that we are getting now.

They have to start somewhere...what they are doing right now is not enough. I agree with reaching out to broader group to see what they can get, who knows, maybe some would contribute more. Sending emails is relatively cheap and efficient. If other's experience is anything like mine, then most haven't even been contacted about this.

I wish I could day that I can’t believe SIU hired this guy, but it is all too easy to believe.                                           https://www.texastribune.org/2020/03/11/admission-bribes-kickbacks-heart-texas-southern-university-turmoil/

Wow - quite the smear attaching bribes, etc to Chancellor Lane! You're about as far off as you were about enrollment decline.

An employee, NOT Lane, was guilty of these things. Lane has been great for SIU so far. Hope he stays.

Have no idea if he was involved in the Mullins firing but 5 - 27 speaks for itself.

@mr_woogers we will never know if he was or was not.  The next hire might shed some light on that subject. Although he was not implicated, he did sign off on it.  Not saying he knew.  He has done a decent job at SIU
