It's just bizarre to me how putting the ball in the basket results in a win. So mysterious!
(Inflammatory political snark)
A conference win! Glad Mo State is leaving the Arena with an L in their final visit as a Valley rival.
It would have been, and almost was, a disaster to lose to that bunch with two of their best players out of the game down the stretch. The fifth foul on their big kid was a terrible call.
Sounds like Nagy intends to mostly play Hensley at the 5 going forward. Hopefully he holds up defensively.
I don’t know if this team will ever not be frustrating to watch with the missed bunnies, but sure glad they got the win. Glad to see Steffe have a nice game. Hope that gets his confidence up. Let’s go get the sweep!
I think last night might have been Sykes’ first DNP of the season? Will be interested to see if he works his way out of the dog house or if that becomes the norm (and a precursor to him transferring).
If they go with an 8-man rotation, that’s going to be heavy minutes for those other guys, especially if Massey, who has really struggled, only gets a few minutes.
It was basically a 7 man rotation last night. I'd like to see Sykes improve his defense and have a chance to get back in the rotation. Hopefully the coaches will see enough D improvement from him in practice. He adds value with his offense, rebounding and athleticism. Unfortunately, he gets lost on defense too much and also gets blown by.

Yeah, Sykes is one of those guys on the team that just doesn’t seem locked in from possession to possession, which ultimately is losing basketball.
It’s a shame because he shows flashes, is athletic and could be a very good rebounder. Meanwhile, Steffe is now playing heavy minutes and only grabbing one or two rebounds a game, which means he better get that shot going consistently to warrant the big minutes.

Agree with this. The interest level and or being locked in seems to be missing. I noticed during numerous time outs that he was sitting on the bench laughing/clowning around. Not exactly the behavior I would want from a coaches stand point for a team who is now 1-5 in MVC play. However, like you mention, he certainly has the ability that this team can use. Maybe Coach Nagy is sending another message per KD?
As far as Mr. Steffe, he's only a frosh who is getting valuable playing time. Growing pains for sure. One thing that stands out...he wants to be at SIU and loves being a Saluki. I believe he will continue to improve.
GO DAWGS!!!

At the same time, it's good to see that Bey was back on the bench -- both for his sake and the team's. Bey and Webber have raw talent, and I'm holding out hope that both will help down the road -- and also that they don't use the redshirt season as a one-way ticket to the transfer portal.
@ajcsaluki Sheridan Sharpe was not in the game the last 2 minutes or so of regulation and the overtime. Does anyone know why?
@siug He was limping a bit. Could be that or maybe he's a really bad free throw shooter? Or coaches thought he was getting trapped too much? OK, that was more questions than answers...

Sharp is a decent free throw shooter and probably the team’s best ball-handler, and he had been playing pretty well. Thought it was an odd move not to have him on the floor but it kinda worked out (not so much late in regulation, but in overtime, when Steffe made some shots).
With this team and new staff there doesn't seem to be a clear pattern or reason for substitutions maybe it was as simple as a coaches decision
First game I've been to since watching us get whipped a couple of times last year. Exciting, physical game and both teams played their butts off. Refs let them play for the most part.
Hensley was great - easily his best game as a Dawg, and he did good defensive work against their BIG bigs, along with some D help from KD and friends. Their starter was like a fullback.
Sharp played well and had a key steal late in the game, Steffe had a good one and was 3 - 6 from three, and Mayo's best game so far. Even though he only scored 6, he played tough D and had 4 steals and 4 rbs.
They were all over Dibba but he still managed 13 pts. Davis didn't score much but was a rebounding machine and also had 5 assists.
Disappointing that they were able to come back and send it to OT, but 7 - 10 from three and 60% shooting in the 2nd half will do that for a team.
Massey still has Mo State 28 spots above us, but we certainly looked like the better team. This is exactly why such computer ratings should not be taken very seriously. (Another example - Illinois is 53 spots above USC who just whipped them in Urbana.)
Go Dawgs!
