Seems like Marcus is shooting worse now than he did his Freshman year.
Think teams are defending him better. Also wonder how much his hip injury from earlier in the season is bothering him
Teams are keying on him big time because they know that nobody else can really score for the Salukis
Can you imagine what Mullins would do if he could recruit players as athletic and talented as Ford can? Similarly, can you imagine what Ford could do if he could coach as well as Mullins?
Just curious, what in his first 3 years as a head coach has Mullins done that leads you to believe he’s a good coach?
Seriously. They play hard. That’s it.
Well multiple people on this board still give Mullins credit for the Loyola success so I figured he must be a good coach. 😉 😆
Yes and that was always BS. (Moser has improved as a coach - learned a lot from Majerus.)
Still think BM can get it done but it won't happen for a couple of years.
Goro are you telling us that we need to make more shots? Because I’ll be honest, that sounds like a great idea 🤣 🤣
I think you and I RIGHT NOW could shoot better than 3-20 from the arc, and I don't even need to warm up. Heck, I'd even try to match that crazy Prim rainmaker shot just to spice things up.
Similarly, can you imagine what Ford could do if he could coach as well as Mullins?
Ford is 5-1 against Mullins now, not sure this is even a thing until Mullins starts winning games
Yep, for as bad as a coach people on this board say Dana Ford is he sure kicks our butt every year. Recruiting is part of being a coach too
Even Reis is trying to ask tougher questions. Asking about a 5-minute drought in the first and second half against basically everyone Southern plays.
That’s a tough question to ask, especially when you’re employed by SIU now. But it needed to be asked (or just said publicly in general)
I really feel bad for Reis - that man DESERVES to see the Salukis in at least one more NCAA tourney game, but that's not gonna happen for at least the next two years, minimum.
To me the biggest question at this point is how is this staff going to land the impact players (multiple) that are needed to elevate the program with the headwinds that are in place?
Yes, the offensive coaching needs to be better, but until the roster is upgraded, we’re all headed for more frustration.

No. No. No.
Coaching is about recruiting kids “who play the game the right way” and make good grades & all kinds of other bullsh**.
🤣
Mo State's team reminded me of the glory days when the Dawgs with Falker, Tatum, Young, Mullins, Shaw etc, would go on the road and have a pretty good chance to win. Sucks to lose, even more so when it's at your place.
I don't think SIU is ever getting back to the glory days, that's a tough hill to climb, but I just want to feel confident in a Salukis team going into Arch Madness. They're the only Valley team to not play on Championship Sunday since they were last there in 2007. I went to Arch Madness in 2014 and had a blast but haven't been back since because they've given me no reason to be there.

Winning isn't everything. It's all about GPA, community service, and graduating. That $8 billion/year the NCAA makes is just for the kids!
LOL
Missouri State having 3 losses is a joke. That team not being an at large team is a joke. Ford gets dudes, but he has to get them to put it together. No reason those dudes shouldn’t be a borderline top 25 team. Prim and Mosley are pretty much unguardable for valley teams… that said, yeah, Mullins has to go find some high impact players. Missouri state does nothing special on offense, they just get the ball in the hands of 2 guys… we also ran good stuff, missed wide open shots all night.
so… make shots, go get some dudes.

I would love that for Mike Reis so much. Hell, even an NIT run would be awesome at this point.
The problem there is you would get underachieving big boys, like Michigan, who would overwhelm Southern with talent.
I never take Reis for granted. SIU basketball is incredibly lucky to have had him all these years.
It all comes down to being happy where you’re at. He is light years ahead of most of the broadcasters we hear on TV and probably on opposing radio as well.
I respectfully disagree with the notion that next year Bryan had better win big time. He's a very young man in his first go at being a head coach. That alone should have a 2-3 year grace period minimum.
Look at Nick Hill. He's in his 7th year now as a HC. Year 3 certainly didn't go all that well for him. And how about Porter Moser. Didn't it take him 12-15 years to figure it out.
Let's be honest, C'dale isn't exactly a destination that draws the best coaches. Small budgets, lots of bus travel, good facilities but certainly not the best, etc. don't attract the best in their respective professions.
SIU is very fortunate to have a Nick Hill. Local boy that wants to stay close to home. And Bryan Mullins, though not a local boy, still has ties to his al mater. If we can give BBQbarry seven years, we can give Bryan at least that. And BBQbarry was a HC for at least ten years before he got here.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

We are excellent shooters. I know because I heard the coach say it numerous times on the radio. How good would our defense be if we didn’t eat up all the time on the shot clock every time we have the ball? Really cuts down on the opponent’s time of possession...of course we pass up a lot of good shots looking for better ones.

I’m all for Mullins getting plenty of time, but getting off to a shaky start makes everything harder, especially from a recruiting standpoint. That’s what concerns me most … the lack of momentum/buzz around the program when you’re scoring 50 points a night and losing home games left and right.
