According to a Reis-Hinson interview posted today, Darius Beane will not redshirt. I'd like to think that means he's good enough to warrant playing time this season even with a veteran backcourt, but the skeptic in me thinks it might have more to do with Anthony Sr. wanting to be able to use the sit-out year for a potential transfer/job hop in the coming years.

I think you're spot on.  Especially since Woofie2 posted that Chester only has one year left if he doesn't make the postseason.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

It is going to come out Wednesday that McGill has suffered a serious injury.  I cannot tell you if his season is over or not but I am pretty sure the decision not to redshirt Beane has to do with McGill being out... I am thinking this is going to be a season ender for McGill but we will find out for sure Wednesday.

That's unfortunate. McGill was energy booster last year.

When you mention that Hinson has only one year left, are you counting the upcoming season as that year?

WOOF!

Chance my info on McGill was wrong.  I do know he was hurt, but the extent of the injury was never made clear to me... We should find out more today.  Hoping for positive news.  We need him.

I’m a little surprised at that.

I've always been told that the final decision on red shirting is up to each player. Of course they can be heavily influenced if the coach says he doesn't anticipate playing them. Another possibility is if a freshman looks so good in practice that they could  be a big help this season.

Couple things from the presser:

McGill injury does not sound long term

10 minutes or so a night available to Beane and he wanted that instead of redshirting

No minutes for Sam, he knows that and still did not want to redshirt.  Barry says "I never force a player to redshirt. never."

Armon better be ready for UK....

My guess is both Beane and Sam are saving the redshirt for their transfer year

Collegeinsider.com took a poll of mid major basketball coaches.  We were picked 10th in the top 25 programs.  Only Loyola, from our conference, was picked higher (3rd).  I picked us 4th in the conference.  I'm sticking with my pick.

I anticipate a finish 3rd to 6th, lose on Friday or Saturday in St Louis and again no post season.

Yes, pretty much this. There will be another empty "second (oro third) place" finish, meaning finishing four games back. Then a not-very-close 10-15-point loss in the tourney.

BUT! 20 WINS!!! GREAT season!

Given the tough schedule, it's going to be hard to hide behind their win total this year

Oh fantastic... Another 4 years of "Beane is going to transfer"..... Maybe his dad just wants him to be a part a good team this year? I can't do this for another 4 years.  We did it with Anthony and he went nowhere. So stop.
