Sounds like so far, so good on Cook.
Not having players on campus for an extended period probably makes just about every coach in the country nervous from a transfer standpoint, but hopefully Mullins and Co. have strong enough relationships with guys (including Cook) to weather this weird circumstance.
Reis asked what the needs were, coach replied "Inside Presence". Beautiful words !!!!!!!

He absolutely has to get this done for next season.
Didn't want to start a new thread, but 100 percent class message here from Bryan:

Wow...what a great message. We are so lucky to have Bryan as a proud Saluki. I have no doubt he will have this program back to sustained success very soon, and he will do it by bringing in the type of student-athletes that made this program great in the 2000s. Thank you for restoring hope in this program Coach Mullins! I hope everyone is staying safe out there.
If I'm in a trench and the enemy is on top of me, I want Bryan Mullins beside me, and I want to be by Bryan.
P.S Any recruits wanting to win and looking to make a difference, SIU is the place to be. Please do not apply if your not willing to give 110%.
Reis was on with Harry Schroeder of Valley Hoops Insider today. Pretty good stuff on the past Saluki teams:
Interview posted today with Mullins. 11 minutes on the transfers:
Understanding this is a most unusual year, asking for clarification about recruiting, about which, I know very little.
So recruits can sign April 15 or after, but the dead period for in person/on campus recruiting continues till June?
Any expertise appreciated.
March on triumphantly!
Interview posted today with Mullins. 11 minutes on the transfers:
Glad they addressed it, and Reis did a nice job with his line of questioning. Sounds like the Francois decision was largely playing time, and with Davis, there were ongoing challenges with his health. Still contending the Cook decision was late-developing ... take it for what it's worth. Mullins says they still have the guys he wants in the program.
Bottom line is if they continue to recruit well AND can retain key pieces going forward, Saluki basketball will be in really good shape. Time will tell ...
I really believe he sounded like he was trying to be confident that this wasn't a big deal but he himself knows they have a big challenge in front of them. This is exacerbated by the the current situation and dead period extension. It's nice to have core pieces returning but the fact that there are only three of them really present this staff with a major task.
His tone of voice in that interview is totally different than any I have heard since he became head coach. It seems apparent to me that Bryan is very disappointed in the number of transfers and did not expect it to happen this way.
I share his disappointment. But what I also know is that Mullins is the kind of guy who will be driven to work even harder from this sort of thing. Considering he has already been a man on a mission, watch out. Bryan will refuse to fail.
While you can detect disappointment in his voice, key take away for me is, BM is going to recruit players that WANT to be at SIU. There is a good chance some will want to transfer every year, the new normal. You cross that bridge when you come to it.
Considering the mess he walked into, this is not unexpected. Keep on, keeping on.
March on triumphantly!
