Also- good things happen when Moreno is in the game. I realize his conditioning is not where it needs to be.

@mr_woogers Yes, Nagy looked as disinterested on the bench as the team did on the floor. Maybe Nagy should turn over the offense as he did the defense? The coaching staff is simply not getting through to this team.
Sadly, it's the same old story almost every game: unforced turnovers, missed layups, missed free throws etc. With few exceptions, it's like there is no learning and/or growth with these guys. Obviously, at this point in the season it's not going to change. What worries me now is next year. And I no longer fear chaos with the roster, it can't get much worse. So while you hate to see another rebuild, so what?
March on triumphantly!

Nagy did turn the offense over to one of the assistants…after the first half last night, he said he switched back to the motion offense b/c he didn’t like how stagnant everyone was. He still very much had his hand in the offense, but what they were running wasn’t what he’s used to so he let Tae Gibbs lead the offense.
I think Nagy is tired of having to get these guys up for games, especially after the losses they’ve had during this 3 game skid. Maybe a mentality problem from some of the players, I don’t know, but having a slow start after two straight losses shouldn’t happen.
A rebuild can be a good thing if you are losing the right people, but that rarely is the case these days. Also, it doesn’t sound like that style of roster management suits Nagy very well, so that should worry you some.
You'd like to think a total rebuild won't be necessary and key guys like Davis and Mayo will stay, but I'm not sure that's possible. Should Davis opt for the portal, he undoubtedly will see some interest from high majors. I'd like to see Steffe, who has shown some recent promise, stick around, but he'll no doubt get a lot of input from his father in making a decision. I also think the staff has to be proactive as soon as the season ends and maybe inform anyone who's mistake-prone, doesn't fit and/or has a lackadaisical attitude that their services are no longer required. And who knows what will happen with Elliott and the redshirts? Will Elliott return, and will be be the same player he was before his injury? And how about the redshirts (I do think Webber will stay, especially if Aligbe and/or Moreno move on, because he stuck with Nagy after he departed Wright State; I'd guess there's some sort of a bond there).
As for this season, my goal was very modest when SIU was 5-11 -- somehow avoid a 20-loss season, which seemed unlikely at the time. Then, we got to within a game of .500, and a winning season was in play. Now, 20 losses is back on the table. A 13th victory would end that possibility. There has to be one win out there somewhere among these final three games. If SIU can't beat Valpo at home, it indicates a raging dumpster fire.
Rumor mill has it this team doesn't put in the extra effort during practice after practice or after practice whatever the case maybe you have to put in the work also film study is done different from the past as this team doesn't do it together but individually and this seems to make sense as Nagy always complains this team doesn't listen or follow scouting reports

I think I saw enough from Nagy in January to have hope for the future, even if this team tanks to end the season.
I assume we’ll be hit hard by the portal (just like every midmajor), but this staff has shown they can recruit.
Dibba is another interesting case for next year. He only played 5 games his Freshman year at Chicago State due to visa issues and injury. He should realistically get a medical redshirt. He's super talented and I think he's just scratching the surface of how good he can be if he applies himself.

Agreed. Staff showed last spring that it could fill out the roster under very difficult circumstances. Just a matter of finding the right pieces to the puzzle this time. They'll be able to get started much earlier this year, and that should help a lot.
Also should clarify that the "dumpster fire" remark was in reference to the end of this season, not the overall future of the program. I still hold out hope that next year could resemble Schertz's second year at Indiana State, when the team went from 13 wins to 23 wins. A lofty goal maybe, but it's doable.
Completely agree! I’d like to see Moreno get additional minutes. In certain situations it would be nice to see the coaching staff run some sets with Hensley and Moreno or Aligbe on the floor at the same time.Also- good things happen when Moreno is in the game. I realize his conditioning is not where it needs to be.

FWIW, I actually heard Hensley was in the arena shooting in the dark this morning.
no question that Hensley puts forth a lot of effort. as someone said I wonder if he's recovering from the flu bug or something. he didn't look 100% this game. neither did mayo.
As a team we made like 1 of 12 3-pointers. Everything else aside, that's a recipe for losing.
Moreno is certainly giving us some nice minutes on the floor. and his free throw shooting is far better than Ebubes or Muilas. someone mentioned his conditioning but I believe it's better than Ebube's last year.
I agree about Dibba's talent. He and Davis are all conference players. Steffe has really improved too.
Even though this was a disappointing loss, I think the future looks bright and I like this coaching staff.
@salukiworld I believe I heard Luke Martin allude to this during a broadcast earlier this year. Mr. Dibba is certainly a talent, but as some folks have mentioned he does seem to take plays off from time to time. Having his services back next season would help.
If we can hold onto Davis and Dibba, add some PG depth behind a (hopefully) returning and healthy Elliott, land one more servicable/athletic 5 mixed in with Walsh's potential to seriously stretch a defense, although I know he'll only be a true freshman, and I think we'll really have something going into next year.
I like Sykes game too and would love to see him further develop as a Saluki. High hopes, I know, but dammit I'm so ready to see us finally win big again.

I must say, from my observation the other night, the staff looked frustrated and a bit tired. Not condoning this, but can understand it. Short period of time to recruit and thus get to know the type of person you're signing. I'd be willing to bet that certain staff members have been watching potential portal transfers all season. We also have two very good high school kids coming in next year, and three redshirt players who should assist with the rebuild. My estimation would be 3-4 players leaving. Pretty clear IMO who they will be. I remember a source close to Armon Flecther telling me how Power 5 schools were contacting him during his junior year. Obviously before cheating was legalized, but was definitely occurring. Assuming there has been talks/plans all season long to keep KD at SIU. I hope he stays, but I'm sure there is a plan B and probably a plan C if he does not. Trust in this staff and the process.
"Sure as God made green apples, the SIU Salukis will dance in the NCAA Tournament"
Go Nagy, Go Dawgs!
Lots of variables but one thing I’m very confident in is that PG depth will be addressed. Pretty certain Nagy doesn’t want to go through another year of having to cobble things together at that position.
