Those empty seats in STL are no small thing, as losing Creighton and Wichita were killers. Valpo in particular brings no one and Loyola’s turnout is weak considering the program’s recent success. SIU winning big would help a fair amount.
I would have been fine with Murray being added but I think Belmont’s reluctance to join with them nixed that possibility.
Belmont isn't interested and Murray is just another mouth to feed. Murray might fill some seats in STL, but they don't offer much else.
They've produced a ton of NBA talent the last decade. The market size doesn't bring much, it's a town similar to Carbondale but I think the benefits of bringing in a good mid-major program outweigh that.

So if they made one bad coaching hire what do they bring then ? Less NCAA money is the answer
no thank you

I think it'd be smart to wait a few years. See how the young talent in the Valley develops and how the schools do in non-conference. If 2-3 seasons from now the Valley is still only getting one bid, add more schools.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I feel strongly that the opposite is true. If we remain a one bid league then you do not expand. You just dilute the value of the one bid. Unless it were SLU or similar program that could bring a bid with them, I see no value.
Could not agree more with 69 and barkeep.
(Inflammatory political snark)
Yeah, I'm not sure expansion is the answer. Depends on the teams considered I guess. If they bring with them serious at-large clout and a strong fan following and good market then maybe. Fat chance though.
If the MVC had two teams depart, if I were league commissioner, I'd push hard to add both Murray AND Belmont. I wouldn't take one without the other. However, if you take both, you also bring aboard one of the better mid-major rivalries out there. That's the type of dynamic this conference needs more of.

Rambler fans don't have that far to travel either.
