My son is a pilot. A buddy of his is a captain flying for the same airplane, and flew the Shockers into Chicago one snowy, icy evening. They were detained on the tarmac for 20 minutes or so before they received clearance to pull up to gate. As they were deplaning Marshall tore into the captain, chewing him out for the delay. The captain told Marshall to take a leap, said he is a total A-hole. 😀

Either Wichita State really screwed up when recruiting these kids or they've got some serious problems in their program. Considering they're no longer part of the MVC, I honestly don't pay attention to them anymore.

It takes a certain kind of kid to play for Marshall, who as has been noted, is quite the a-hole.
And transfers within a program can become, pardon the word choice these days, contagious (see Valpo last offseason, SIU in the late Lowery and early Hinson years, etc.).

I don't believe there is any deadline.
The Transfer Portal is listed by calendar year such as 2020, 2019, 2018. A student athlete can choose to enter the portal at any time during their first 3 years of active competition (a red shirt or medical hardship waiver year is not counted as active). There are student athletes that have entered the portal after their Fall semester. Those student athletes would not be eligible to play at their new school until the Spring semester the following year.

He sounds like a good one, but I just saw on a basketball site (twitter.com/zsmart3) that there are 14 schools he has been in contact with, and Southern isn't among that group.

That's a bummer. Sounds like he could've provided the immediate impact that SIU needs for next season. Rebounding was a huge weakness for SIU last season and The Dawgs struggled with any team that had length.
Still think it would be beneficial to have an assistant coach that has a solid reputation for developing low post players. Could be a selling point and assist with getting some quality BIGs in place.
Scoring the nations leading rebounder as a grad transfer would've been about best case scenario. It was also a pipe dream given that he's transferring from Quinnipiac. After putting up numbers like that, it's easy to see why he'd likely want to test his skills at the highest level possible for his final season.
