If we lose the CBS coverage of Arch Madness, I think we lose a lot of money. I think that's the best reason for adding Maury St...plus it'll PO Bum! 😀

UTA is too far away, doesn't have a great fan following. Doubt they would have any effect at all on enrollment of other MVC schools. And they're almost always awful. They have TCU, SMU, N. Texas, UT, and SF Austin not too far away.

They have a very nice arena. Moving the MVC tournament there would kill the MVC. Doubt they would contribute much to Arch Madness. I think the Commish is way off on this one.

People ripping Maury St because they're one sport? How is that different than Belmont? (unless music business is now a sport)

I have to make this clear again I guess.

we have no idea about what is going  to happen. The only thing we have any confidence about is UIC.

u might want to do a little research before popping off.

belmont finished 2nd last year in the all sports standings (ahead of Murrey).

belmont is well rounded and you admit murray brings just one sport and almost all of that success is ancient history (to borrow your words).

since you only make judgements based on men's basketball, I am more than happy to point out that Belmont finished 8 games ahead of that same dead horse in men's basketball last year (that's recent history).

murrey slugged it out and pulled away from SEMO by one game (recent history again).

Clipped mighty Edwardsville State by just one more game (more recent history).

you really have to start asking yourself why Murray can't escape the OVC.

maybe they will.

hopefully the American will take them in and not the Missouri Valley conference (see the owner's post above).

selection criteria includes more that men's basketball in case you weren't listening.

turn out the lights when you leave. 😘

hate to break the news to you, but CBS isn't real impressed by the potential of addition of 3,000 total TV households in Murray, Kentucky that are already included in the MVC footprint with KFVS TV.

no one cares!

if they did, that dead horse would have been in this league years ago.

you know saluki basketball.  stick to what you know.

Let’s sit back and think who votes on conference expansion decisions….the school presidents.  We can argue all we want but to sit here and think the presidents are saying “ who is the best basketball fit”, without taking anything else into consideration….would be lying to ourselves.  I think the presidents are more concerned with keeping The Valley a more prestigious conference in relation to graduation rates, types of institutions , etc.  So combining these things puts Murray down the list….just looking at graduation rates we can eliminate a few schools even from the conversation.

As I was saying Meth State checks one box. A decent basketball team. That’s it. I’m pretty sure the people voting on expansion expect a whole lot more than that. They are certainly not going to add a school with a grad rate under 50%

don't flatter yourself.

not pissing me off at all.

I am however trying to figure out why you want to steal money from SIUs pocket to prop up some other clown show.

send murray a donation out of your own pocket if you so badly want them to succeed.

i would prefer SIU be successful myself.

Brad Korn had SEMO to a level where they finished just 1 game behind Murrie State in his 1st year.

SEMO won the OVC all sports trophy last year.

Let's add SEMO.

Bigger market, better access, better academics, better sports performance than Murrie.

Facts.

Long time lurker, been involved in season tickets for last 15 or so years. Just consider my self a realist and know a little bit about the game. I want what is best for the conference, but just not sure where my confidence level is at with certain presidents of the conference.  Was told by a pretty reliable source that a certain president was wanting funding for athletics to drop down to SWAC levels and each individual team to fund raise to make up the difference.  If that is true, athletics isn’t too high on their priority list.

OK, have to ask: what is up with the "Maury" State thing?

(Inflammatory political snark)

I hate to pop your bubble, but, although I'm sure any college president is concerned about academic rep, as far as I know the MVC is just an athletic conference.  Not sure that Murray State academics would kill their chances. And the argument that one bad coach would kill them? Nah! They're not going to put up with a Barbeque salesman nearly as long as we did.

Some athletic conferences also have academic consortiums. The Big 10 has had such a thing since the 50's and those schools cooperate on research agendas, etc.  I don't believe the MVC has any such thing. Yes it has academic honor rolls - what conference doesn't? - but it's just about athletics. And basketball is the one sport that brings in money.

CBS would love Maury St at Arch Madness.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/missouri-valley-conference-loses-loyola-chicago-but-pursuing-murray-state-ut-arlington-and-kansas-city/

"As for the Missouri Valley's potential new members, the appeal for Murray State is clear and most obvious. It's one of the most accomplished mid-major programs in men's basketball, with 17 NCAA Tournament appearances to its name. The school previously failed to win its campaign to join the Valley in 2017, when league presidents picked Valparaiso over the Racers. Since then, Murray State has gone 92-33 under Matt McMahon, won an NCAA Tournament game, made two NCAA Tournaments and produced the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Ja Morant. The only thing holding back Murray State was its remote location and lack of being in a metropolitan area. That appears to no longer be a sticking point for MVC presidents. "

Hopefully we'll find out next week.
