Derek Winans was a stud.  The only thing that slowed him down was injuries.

As satifying and as much of a breath of fresh air as this season was , this offseason has been equally disappointing.

At this point , I think we are middle of the pack team.

Lance Jones and Domask are really good and only going to get better.

Trent Brown : There were times this year when I wondered if maybe he would be one to transfer and move to a lower competition level.  Now , I think a lot of times the biggest improvement is between freshman and sophomore year:

Dembele, Banks, Butler, Harvey are all unknown at this point in my mind.

We have to be better at the 5 next year

Aaron Cook is a very good player and I don't foresee any of the new guys (the ones we have or the 6 open scholarships) being as good this upcoming year as he is.

To be able to contend, I think we would need to have 3 more guys , including one of the bigs, have the kind of impact that Domask did this year.

Some of the videos that have been being posted of the big guys we are in on look promising, I hope we can get a couple and they work out.

You're joking right? I'm not happy that Cook's leaving, but he was not an all-conference player - he was on track to have a good senior season as expected. I'd be really upset if Domask or Jones left. They'll both be better players than Cook. Agree about Brown - hoping for a big improvement next year.

But I do agree the other guys are unknowns at this point. The way to build really good mids is get players with potential and keep them. With Davis and Francois gone, it really feels like BM is starting all over and that's tough.

Trust the process.  Bryan and the staff will find quality guys to fill out the roster - its the name of the game now.

12 months ago the rebuild was looking like this

Year 1 - cellar

Year 2 - middle of pack

Year 3 - top half of league

We were able to do in year 1 what i would've considerd as success in year 3.  The valley is going to be very solid next year , so a top half finish again would still be positive momentum.  You have to remember that BBQ left this roster a disaster - no balance

I can see the argument both ways. Yes, Mullins can fill the roster almost wholly with his guys. Yes, there's a chance they could be more talented. However, after more than a decade of falling out of relevance, It'd have been nice to maintain a bit more continuity with known commodities on the roster after a surprise season that generated a lot of hope for the immediate future.

Now there's a few more question marks outside of just the glaring need to shore up the 5 spot, and that sucks. That's where I think Cook leaving hurts the most. His senior leadership could've been exponentially valuable and you pretty much knew what you were getting.

To me, losing Davis and Francois hurts more than Cook because those were two guys you brought in last offseason.  Cook and Gooch were at least Hinson guys, so you can live with that especially since Cook wasn't supposed to be here another year anyways.  Hopefully with more time to build relationships with incoming players as opposed to a month, this won't be a yearly trend because continuity is very important.

@mr_woogers Joking??? About what???  My Point is Cook is an impact player.  If you have Cook, Jones , and Domask thats a real good start to a starting five.  Could Jones and Domask be better than Cook as Seniors sure.  Are they as going to be , as Sophomores , better than him as a Senior, thats a little tougher.  When you add up the defections, that is gonna be rough on continuity.

After further reflection the silver lining is that Jones was forced into major minutes because of Cooks injury and Cook wasn't suppose to be around next year anyways.

@barkeep-1967 So here the thing about that.  I hope he turns out to be a star and he could be.  However, in the era of Salukitalk and Saluki Nation, how many times have we heard about the best player on the team being the guy that can't play this year for whatever reason, or such and such is going to be a stud.

Two that come to mind Justin Bocot and Mike Dale

I do not wish any ill will for ANY MVC team, but Missouri State just lost Dixon and Cooper.  This hurts them !!

Considering all the hype about MO State going into last season, they drastically underachieved.  Didn't see enough of their games to know what happened.  Some of it may have been due to injuries, but I also have to believe the guys on that team just never jelled and didn't play together as a team.  Ford needs to re-evaluate his roster and fix it for next season.
