Is anyone else anxious that we only have 6 players atm? There are a lot of holes in the roster. Really, really hoping we can get some big men in. This coming season will be interesting with all first and second year players...

I'm definitely anxious about the numerous transfers and resulting roster rebuild.  Hoping Mullins gets some commits from quality kids, that want to be at SIU, and can elevate the program.  Gotta get a couple of quality low post guys for next season.

Bryan has publicly stated, on several occasions, that he will not sign a player who is not (paraphrasing), a good kid. As he said on day one, “first you build the culture”. I love that.

I agree.  Don't sign bad kids.  That being said, let's see a couple of 6'8" - 6'10" wide bodies that can crash the boards and score in the paint.

So with the addition of Muila, one would have to think that is our starting 5 man next year. Its safe to say Jones and Domask are starting, and there is quite a bit of sentiment saying that Harvey is starting. So , the question is, is Domask starting at the 3 or the 4 next year???

You have to figure that you aren't getting a grad transfer unless that grad transfer believes he is going to start and play a significant role.  Personally, I don't believe the kid from Lewis is built to play significant minutes at the 5, if Domask primary spot is going to be the 4 , there isn't going to be many minutes available there.

I would think even if Dembele is coming back and going to be able to stay healthy we have to sign at least one more big kid whose primary spot would be the 5.  Of the people who have been discussed I would like to see us get Coulibaly

I also wouldn't mind seeing us get another guy 6'7 range who could maybe play the 4 and the 5.

Lastly, I would like to us use the last 5 scholarships in 2-3 freshman and the other 2 -3 be Jucos or grad transfers.

With his hair, maybe Mullins was seeing flashes of Falker? 😉 I hope so. Jones was also beginning to get some twisties towards the end of last season so maybe the hair is on its way back like Tatum and Falker, the last time we were NCAA bound. And yes I’m superstitious

Again I have been told directly by a very very reliable person. Harvey was one of if not the best player on the floor in practice last year.  He will start

How the hell would I know ?   That’s Bryan’s Job 😀

my guess would be Banks,Jones,Harvey and Domask  which can absolutely change with one commit. Lol

Well BK, I know you're not talking about me (bc you said reliable-lol), but you know I have been on this guy since Day 1.  He has so many  facets to his game and they had already seemed to be polished as a freshmen at Eastern.  I know there will be some competition, but I see him being the best player on the team next season.

As far as who starts, I think we would agree it will be Jones, Domask, Harvey and now Muila will be starting.  As far as the 5th, who knows.  If Banks can prove himself quickly, he certainly may start but my $$ is on a player who has not yet committed at this time.

If Harvey is better than Domask then count me as being very excited!

I hope Harvey has a helluva year, but you're going out on quite the limb there with saying he'll be Southern's best player. Statistically, Domask's freshman year was well ahead of Harvey's, and Domask also was playing in a better conference against better competition. Marcus also has the work ethic to keep making strides in his game. And as an aside, the Lance Jones of the last month of the season played at a very high level in his own right.

Regardless of the pecking order, hopefully that trio has the chance to give Southern some reliable offensive punch, and then some of these other guys can chip in and provide the depth that was lacking last year. And we'll see who else comes aboard.

@siudawgs

Please allow me to clarify, my prediction that Harvey will be the best player on the floor is by NO MEANS any slight towards Jones or Domask.  I was genuinely impressed by Jones improvement at the end of the season. Less wild off balances drives, better decision making, improved shooting (including free throws) as well as leadership.  And what else can be said about Domask?  The kid was a stud and, as you noted, in a good conference.  And while he struggled at the end of the year, I have no doubt he will condition himself this off-season to ensure that doesn't happen again.  You simply don't get to be the President of the Ben Harvey fan club unless you think he's the best player on the team.  😉 😊 🤣

Regardless, isn't this exciting for a change? Who gives a f+++ which is the better player. They are all 3 very good players. Me likey!!!

If Domask is playing the 4 spot, I think SIU is in trouble.  That's not his natural position and he struggled in the post last season.  Mullins still needs to bring in a 4 and probably another 4 or 5.

I think we get to caught up with numbering the possitions 4,5,3 etc this day in age in bball.

I think SIU needs another player with some length and athleticism.
