How in the world is Lance Jones NOT on a top 15 player in MVC?
Lance came on strong at the end of the year and I don't think many people would have been surprised to see him make the 3rd team based on his defense alone (not to mention 3pt shooting). I think the voters might have judged him based on his potential and expectations as he has the tools to be a 1st team all Valley player. In fact, if I were a betting man, I would say the chances of him making 2nd or even 1st team are pretty darn good next year now that he's moving to the 2 spot. If his 3pt shooting is consistent and he improves his FT shooting, he could very easily lead the team in scoring. You add that to his tenacious defense and you're looking at an all Valley player for sure.
UIC gets an interesting transfer from Southern Miss:

In other "transfer" news....
Good for Kyle Smithpeters! I hope he gets a D1 head coaching gig at some point.

Man, Missouri State sure doesn't have an issue signing athletes. They fit in pretty well in this Transfer U era. I believe they're either one or two over on scholarships now, depending on if Mosely returns.
Someone tell NJ Benson he would've had a much better shot at early playing time in Carbondale ... 😆

I’ve seen confidence that they expect Mosley back but I wonder if this means they don’t expect him back. Either that or they’re going to have to make some tough decisions

Missouri State, MVC kings of the portal by a wide margin. Ford was built for the chaos, if not the Xs and Os during close games in March.
But, admittedly, it's a little jealousy-inducing to see the ease with which they seem to be able to sign talented kids compared to Southern (and other MVC programs, in fairness).

I'm not sure nearly 100% turnover is a good thing, unless you are getting Kentucky/Duke type talent. Missouri State is getting some 3* guys who didn't play much for power conference teams and decent mid major and juco transfers. Missouri State is getting some decent transfers, but team chemistry, learning a new system, etc. is going to be an issue. I don't think this strategy is a sure fire recipe for ncaa tourney type success. I like Mullins mix of developing kids and adding a transfer or two. I think it will pay off eventually. D'Amico, Wonders, Ebube, etc. should hopefully be able to hit the ground running after being in the system for 1+ years. It will be interesting to see how things shake out. This is not to say we don't still need an athletic PF transfer. We still do!

Ford can flat out recruit. He is 5-1 against Mullins and frankly most of the games weren’t close. I like the approach Mullins is taking better but Mullins must recruit better for it too work. So far this spring recruiting hasn’t been successful. Of course there is still time for Mullins to get help for next year. We need proven offensive help.
Just my opinion but I believe how you recruit and build your program is an indicator on how you see your future Mullins seems to a long term commitment to SIU and trying to have sustained success when he was a player Ford on the other hand seems to be focused on a quick turnaround and looking for a bigger opportunity

I could not agree more. You build from the ground up.
