Just a noted NET ranking update as of 1/25/23.

There are only 4 schools that are currently ranked 1-0 in Quad 1 games.

SIU, Belmont, Weber State (Verplanken), and Wofford (Filewich)

RANK PREV RANK SCHOOL CONF. RECORD ROAD NEUTRAL HOME QUAD 1 QUAD 2 QUAD 3 QUAD 4
104 106 Southern Ill. MVC 16-5  6-3  1-1  9-1  1-0  1-2  6-3  8-0
116 115 Belmont MVC 14-6  5-4  2-1  7-1  1-0  1-2  5-3  7-1
214 215 Weber St. Big Sky  8-10  3-6  1-2  4-2  1-0 0-4  1-3  6-3

Can't believe we don't even crack the top 100.

Can't believe we don't even crack the top 100.

They're winning games and we haven’t seen much winning in the last 15 years so I don’t care much at all about their NET or KenPom but realistically they’re a pretty good team in a conference that’s way down this year.  The MVC ranks 14th below the Ivy League in conferences on KenPom and SIU really struggled against some awful teams like Alcorn State, Chicago State, SEMO, and Evansville at home.

If we keep winning, I would not be surprised to see SIU getting a handful of Top 25 votes - even though our NET will likely ever get anywhere remotely close - only because the voters likely all just go off eye-tests from looking at records and conference standings.

Win at Ill St, then AT BRADLEY and finally at home vs Missouri St and they WILL get votes and more than just a small handful.

Honestly id be suprised, voters know the valley is way way down this year. All you need to know to see that is where the NCAA bracket projections have the valley winner, most have it as a 14 seed.... and thats bad.

Net rankings are a bunch of silly numbers - maybe worse than the RPI:

11-9 Ohio St 2 - 7 Quad 1 just lost to Illinois by 9, is in 12th place but is ranked #26 to 5th place 14 - 6, 3-5 Quad 1 Illinois' #27

Creighton #20  5-3, 11-8, 1 - 5 Quad 1 is ranked ahead of 1st place Xavier 9-1, 17-4, 5-3 Quad 1 who already beat Creighton

Texas Tech 0-8 Quad1, 0-8 Big 12, 10-10 overall is #73

James Madison 10 - 8 , 7th in Sunbelt, 1-3 Quad 1 is #84

Crazy!

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, this is clearly designed to work against everyone outside of the big money conferences.

I never thought anything would make me miss the days of the RPI being the standard metric for post season evaluation, but this did the trick.

Total BS number crunching.

@usmcsaluki and don't forget name recognition. It's so important in the rankings to be a nationally respected major conference team
