I know some will say "You wanted a tougher schedule and they schedule Kentucky and you're still bitching ... ", but I'm not a big fan of this game. Kentucky is one of a small handful of elite teams you basically have no chance to beat. I'd much rather Southern have scheduled a neutral court event with some regular BCS-type opponents, or scheduled a road game against a marquee opponent who isn't going to be in the preseason top 5 in just about every poll ... an Iowa, Missouri, Northwestern, Auburn, etc. ... someone you actually have a chance to beat and enhance your resume.
Yes, I'd rather play Kentucky than another bottomfeeder, but I don't know that it really serves the stated purpose of building an at-large resume. Also, I love how Hinson is changing his tune about that now ... I thought midmajors didn't have a chance for at-larges anymore?
I don’t mind Kentucky and I’m glad it’s beefed up a bit.
However this should be the norm and the university is acting like we’re doing something special here.
It’s a nice schedule but it should be expected not celebrated. That’s what I’m so annoyed about.
I like it much, especially the pickup of two with Buffalo.

wE played Lville the last two years. I think.
I like the schedule. Now the next step is to start setting expectations that we're not just happy to be on the same floor with these teams, but we expect to compete and win these games. I understand Kentucky is a stretch....but don't go in there and "lay down".
Quote in SoIL, Hinson said. "On paper, this will be the toughest schedule in the history of the program, but I have confidence in these young men." Really? By what measure I wonder or is Hinson doing his hyperbole once again. Schedule seems solid to me, but toughest schedule in the history of the program?!!!
six figures payout--let's give em a game and take their money
I know that some of the brainwashed fans are convinced that this years team will deliver results. I wonder if a 40+ point blowout to Kentucky will wipe all the enthusiasm out of the fan base and cost us more in ticket sales than the guarantee we'll get. I agree that the schedule needed to be stepped up, but I'm really not sure this was a good move.

Right, in 2007-08, SIU faced Mississippi State, USC, Indiana, Butler, St. Mary's, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, Nevada, St. Louis, Charlotte, Northern Illinois and Chattanooga in the non-conference, not to mention an MVC that still included Creighton (twice) and Wichita State (twice).
In 2008-09, Southern faced, UMass, Duke, UCLA, Western Kentucky, SLU, Charlotte, Nevada, NIU, St. Mary’s, Western Michigan, Creighton (twice) and Wichita State (twice).
I would say both of those schedules were equal to this year's, if not harder. Granted, they didn't have the appeal of pre-season No. 1 UK as the season opener, but more depth overall, including the stronger conference schedule for when BH is claiming "toughest schedule ever."

I think you should be wise and try to schedule games where you have a chance to win. The best games are those with teams that are within 20 spots of you RPI (or whatever the new system is called). Scheduling up so far that you don't have a chance to be competitive is setting yourself up for disaster. Louisville was bad enough last year and I've been praying that we don't have to play Nevada this year.....but than Barry trumps it all and does the bonehead move of adding Kentucky to the schedule. What a fartknocker.....he just doesn't know when to stop being stupid.
BBQ is actually a genius
SIU gets blown out by the best UK team since 2012 . His OOC schedule rank goes up. Nobody cares he got blasted he was supposed to. He smiles all the way to the bank. Barry cares about Barry
