When I saw SIU was up 11 at the half against a highly beatable team, I'll admit to having some flashbacks to the blown double-digit halftime leads of the past few seasons, especially last year. Very encouraging to see that it wasn't an issue this time. NDSU's awful shooting was a major factor, of course, but still a good thing and a welcome change.
SIU went from 157 to 134 in KenPom just based on this win. Nice bump!

Also the second best defensive rating in the conference as well.
Have not posted in awhile. But the troubling statistic is FREETHROW SHOOTING. The last 3 games habit been burning the nets on Ft’s
I’ve mainly been a bit of a critic through the first few games but tonight I was pretty freakin impressed. Hope we can pull a surprise on Friday!

Scott Nagy is just what this program needed. If SIU will ever get back to their glory days, a tough thing to do in this NIL era, it will be with a coach like Nagy. After listening to this guy and seeing how the players have responded to his coaching style and philosophy I feel very confident that SIU has struck gold with this guy. It makes me wonder what Nagy could have done with the Lance Brown/Marcus Domask teams. Love the way he uses his players.
Just wish we could have player's names on the jerseys. Any reason given why they are missing? Rare to see a team that doesn't have them. Does it tie in with his team philosophy?

Nagy was asked about this at Wright State and explained that he's a "what's on the front of the uniform is much more important than what's on the back" kind of guy; thus, no names. I'd also prefer to see the names because unless it's a team with a longstanding tradition of not wearing them -- the Yankees, Southern Cal and Penn State football, Indiana basketball -- the uniforms look a bit small-time without them. But, as stated previously, if Nagy builds a winner and takes SIU to a few NCAA tournaments, he can do whatever he wants with the uniforms as far as I'm concerned.

Also makes me wonder what Nagy could have done with the Lance JONES/Marcus Domask teams! LOL
Glad they got to experience the Elite 8 (Domask) and National Championship (Jones) on more uptempo teams that were fun to watch.
A solid win vs a good and well coached team in NDSU. With the experience and knowledge that Coach Nagy is in possession of, it is refreshing and reassuring to see improvement each game.
"In Nagy, I trust!"
GO DAWGS!!!
I like how the bigs aren’t scared to back down defenders for easy baskets. Aligbe is going to be a good one when he adjusts to the speed and they’ll have Webber in the future
Hinson didn't have names on jerseys either for the same reason (it's about the team, not the individuals, etc.). But with NIL and players getting recycled every year via the portal, names should be on all jerseys because it will be mid-year until fans start to recognize players. And that's just from a fan perspective. Even Deon Sanders said that "no last names" isn't a good way to operate nowadays - so he not only paid for Jackson State to put names on jerseys, but he paid for the entire SWAC conference to do so for individual marketing purposes. I don't necessarily agree with it, but it's the way the sporting world is going now.
Note: I, personally, don't really care about the individual marketing, I'm just using that logic to sell the idea to the administration to put names on so that I can recognize players before February. 😆
Really like the ball movement on offense last night. Much better than previous games. Also kudos to coach Hawkins and Nagy for getting Mayo off the point guard position when EE was subbed out. Steffe did a really nice job directing the offense while in.
