Notice that Moreno is being used at the end of games? I wonder if it's because by then everyone is getting tired and he can keep up better. Also, the games had become more half-court type games and not so much run and gun.
Also missing: This may have been asked earlier and sorry if it has been covered. Why no confetti/streamers after the first Saluki score to start the game and after halftime? The Dawg Pound was a little skinny Monday night, I was little surprised by the attendance and lame crowd reaction too. It's early, I know, but hope it's not the result of a Mullin's hangover...Just wish we could have player's names on the jerseys. Any reason given why they are missing? Rare to see a team that doesn't have them. Does it tie in with his team philosophy?
March on triumphantly!
@maroonloon there were streamers to start the second half when siu scored. I don't recall any for the first half though. They were on the side opposite of the pound. I thought it was a pretty decent crowd for a Monday night game at 7 against ND ST. I barely made the game after work and all
@salukimodemrowe Okay, thanks SMR. Must have missed them. Yeah, not a bad crowd, just hoping for more.
March on triumphantly!
@maroonloon If you win, they will come.
It's honestly amazing we're still drawing 4k+ every night without sniffing even Sunday in Arch Madness since 2007
@maroonloon as I was at the game the crowd reaction could be the style of game also there wasn't a lot of pure hustle plays we are accustomed to seeing in years past also no big 3 pointers at key times and no momentum changing dunks just my opinion
@sandman95 i am not saying the team didn't play hard just a different style than the fans are used to after the last few years the up in your face pressure that caused turnovers and the diving for loose balls it is just a different style more of an emphasis on offense as opposed to defense
NDSU doesn't turn the ball over. They average 8 turnovers a game, we turned them over 9 times. Regarding turnovers overall. This years team turns opponents over an average of 13.8 per game so far, last years team averaged 10.8. Last year we averaged 5.5 steals per game, this year it's 8.8 so far. Yes, we play at a much faster pace and maybe that's where your observation lies regarding our defense. However, I wouldn't say we were great at ball hawking last year. We held NDSU to 44 points and it was our best defensive effort so far. We played outstanding defense against NDSU! There are more possessions for each team with our style this year so maybe that's where you are coming from. Anyway, a couple things we are doing this year that we didn't last year is we are picking up man to man defense at full court often and we are also trapping full court at times which we never did last year. I would argue that with our length and athleticism this years team is better defensively than last years. Last years team gave up less points per game, but that's because of the slow deliberate style they played. Nagy really emphasizes defense!@sandman95 i am not saying the team didn't play hard just a different style than the fans are used to after the last few years the up in your face pressure that caused turnovers and the diving for loose balls it is just a different style more of an emphasis on offense as opposed to defense
NDSU beat Minnesota Crookston by 7 yesterday, a 1-3 D2 team
NDSU also won at Santa Clara who is picked 3rd in the WCC this year. D2 games early in the season are wild cards. Teams play longer rotations, experiment with schemes, etc. I wouldn't take much out of a close game against a D2 early. NDSU is a decent team that will surprise some folks this year, but is certainly not anywhere near a powerhouse. They are probably somewhere around a 175-200 NET team at the end of the year.NDSU beat Minnesota Crookston by 7 yesterday, a 1-3 D2 team
To be fair, NDSU was without one of their best players who would have made a big difference in the game against us and the D3 school. They were a well coached team who had done a lot of travel coming into the game. We are making progress both defensively and offensively, but our free throw shooting needs some work in a hurry. Florida will come to play and we better be ready or we will get run off the court by them.
