Sigh
SIU was picked 5th pre season. Lose to 2 teams that were top 4 pre season in very close games.
now the sky is falling ? Got it
B***y was criticized endlessly for beating up on bad teams and losing to good teams constantly. This team has 1 quality win all year and 2 horrid losses.
If you're just counting all the top 4 teams as 2 losses, then SIU is staring down a .500 Valley season or worse.

Come on…. Barry had far longer and was producing the same results. Bryan’s first class is essentially sophmores. They’re still playing against kids 2 and 3 years older than them that have been in the league longer. The goal this year was probably always avoid Thursday and see what you can do in STL.
how many wins does it take to avoid Thursday this year? 8 or 9?
It's a bit concerning the last 2 games we shot well above our average 3pt percentage and still lost both games
That "we're young" excuse only goes so far. This team is NOT essentially sophomores..it's essentially upper classmen. Jones, Domask, Verplancken, Brown, Harvey, Muila are juniors, Davanzo's a grad student, Coupet's a senior.
For UNI, Heise is a freshman and Carter is a sophomore. They killed offensively and on the boards. Fyfe didn't play much and Berhow only scored 6 pts.
BM isn't using any excuse..he thinks we should have won that game and so do I. Crap first half killed us.
The criticism of Jones is ridiculous....that was the 1st game in a while where he played like he was almost 100 %, and once again he was trying to save a two-man team. None of his drives to the basket was ill-advised. He was fouled a bunch of times on those, a few of which the crap refs actually called. 20 pts!! Incredible effort by Jones and Domask. Two on five basketball.

Carter is a soph the way Lance and Domask are Sophs. They’re lead by a 4th year player. They have 4th and 5th year players. How many times do you have to hear every coach in the valley say that experience wins in the valley before you believe them? Maybe we can calm down until we have senior leaders year in and year out that are the oldest kids on the court.

Carter is actually a junior and Heise a sophomore (maybe they’re listed differently because of the COVID year).
But I agree youth isn’t much of an excuse for the Salukis at this stage. This group needs to find a way to up its game, particularly on the offensive end. And it’s evident there is more work to be done on the recruiting front.

I think most understood expectations going in to the season…most also expected a 2-3 bid Valley. With the way the season has gone for The Valley in general (massive underperformance from the projected top 4 minus Loyola), I think some thought (including myself) we could be a top 3-4 team if things broke our way. UNI seems to be playing much better as of late, as does Missouri State (at least Mosley anyway), so we may have caught these guys at a bad time.
When expectations went up, so did frustration when we aren’t able to close out winnable games against these top four teams, especially this one at home (right or wrong). Personally, I’m not overly disappointed with the results so far in conference play, but I do hope we can start winning some of these games at home against the upper echelon teams. That builds confidence going forward as these guys mature.
Next year, if we are still in this same position, I’ll start ringing the alarm bells.
I think some of us need to relax. We are losing very close games to better teams. As soon as those close losses turn to wins we are having a much different conversation. It takes time to build a championship program. We are barely into year 3.
Everyone needs to relax. It takes time to build programs. Get players in, develop them. Just wait until we have some seniors, some 5th year guys, you have to get it rolling. Anyone who thinks this is the same as Hinson can GTFO of here. It isn’t close. Check some recruiting profiles, Mullins isn’t a freaking clown show every night, Mullins has expectations to win the valley not just finish top 5 like BH. Don’t come in here comparing the 2. Mullins is a good young coach learning on the job but doing a great job building what was a completely bare program up. Go ahead run him off cause you buffoons expect success overnight. “Rome was built in a day” - half you idiots.

Can we can the melodrama? No one is trying to run Mullins off and I think there’s just about unanimous preference for him over the prior clown show. But there are some reasonable causes for concern with a team that is NOT as young as you’re implying, and I’m not sure recruiting is going as well as you’re implying, either.
Also, in this day and age, coaches don’t need 5 years to build a winner. Look at our opponent tomorrow night.

It isn't drama. Read some of the comments on social media and on here. You would think the sky is falling. Look how long in took Porter to build a winner at Loyola. Darren Devries chose to build his program in a way that is unsustainable and lends me to believe that he will be leaving Drake for a bigger job when he sees the time is right. Mullins decided to go with Freshman, a longer, but more sustainable rebuild.
While we are on the topic of Drake though in terms of our youth, check out the ages of the Drake players, particularly their leaders compared to ours. You need 4 and 5 year guys to win consistently in the Valley, lets give Mullins a chance to get to that point.
Beat Drake and the board will be strategizing a 2 seed in St Louis. All this team has needed so far in conference is a vastly improved FT offense

Mullins absolutely deserves and will get a chance to get to that point, agreed there.
Let’s hope the current redshirts bring something exciting to the table and some roster weaknesses are addressed in the spring, but as you said, this staff has leaned more into high school recruiting than transfers, and most quality high school kids sign in the fall period.
I would like to see Coupet get more aggressive offensively especially driving to the basket. He could be offensive threat number three.
For what it is worth...
Bruce Weber finished year three at SIU with a 16-14 record during a total rebuild.
