I was syncing the audio of Luke Martin and Rodney Watson with the CBS TV feed and when the first T was called, Watson said that taunting is a point of emphasis this season with the refs and it is basically a zero tolerance kind of thing so I don't think the call against D'Amico was gravely injust. You may make the argument that the OSU player said something while TD was just chest thumping, but if you are unbiased, I think the argument can be made that TD's action is a form of taunting...the keyword being unbiased here. SO let me have it.I'm already on record in this thread saying the D'Amico technical was a horrendous call, and it absolutely could have changed the outcome at that late stage of the game. It was brutal.
To play devil's advocate, though, I also thought the tech on the Oklahoma State player in the first half was a weak call, and it probably falls in the same bucket of being way oversensitive about "taunting," when neither instance really struck me as remotely tech-worthy. So, I guess you could say it was consistent, although obviously the D'Amico call seemed like way higher stakes given the timing.
That's good context, thanks. I just think most would agree that, given how much blood, sweat and tears these athletes put into this, expecting them not to react with some emotion at huge moments of games is highly unreasonable, not to mention sucking some fun from the sport.
I'd like to see how taunting is defined and some examples of what is and what isn't considered taunting. Last night very much seemed like overreach.
@siudawgs Words may have been said also. In some instances we don't know the whole story.
I am sure the over and back Ms Bonner did not call some games ago is just an emphasis this season as well. Fact is the refs completely ruined the game, it was impossible to watch, and they should face suspension. As someone else mentioned, why was the first dunk not called a t then? I could write a book about how pathetic that officiating was and if they wanted to make taunting an emphasis this year they would have called it on the first play of the game, not the last.
I was told by a 100% reliable source, however he must have confused micro fracture with hairline. The way he described it he indicated it was a very tiny break, undetectable on an x ray. He used the word micro fracture, but I think he was trying to describe a very tiny fracture in his foot. He was sincere in his hope he would be back by Wichita, so it's definitely not season ending.Ferguson has a micro fracture in his foot. Initial X rays didn't show. Later MRI did. Hoping to have him back for Wichita, but that would be optimistic.Speaking of Ferguson, anyone know what his status is? Nothing is broken right?
You sure it's a "micro-fracture"? That's a really bad injury that would likely put him out for the year. I think it ruined Greg Oden's career. Ferguson was in a boot during warm-ups.
I did mention earlier that Sharp was going through warm-ups and was dressed. He should not be redshirting if Ferguson is out for an extended period.
Was wondering if you meant hairline fracture because that makes more sense and would be a much better outcome here I think. Thanks for the info
As someone else mentioned, X is second in the league avg points and looks like Trent is 3rd in 3 pt %. Wonder how sustainable it is
I haven't watched the replay as of yet but i will this evening and while a I appreciate the syncing with Luke and the coach I always like listening to the national announcers to get their opinion of what is happening sometimes a more neutral look
First and foremost, X marks the spot! Player of the Year? For the Valley? Well, sure. But I’m talking for the Nation! Obviously I’m mostly joking, as Zach Edey will have the P5 bias as well as legitimately being in the top 2-3 in both scoring and rebounding. But wooooow is Xavier in the zone. Or in more technical terms, a state of “flow.” Second in the nation in scoring now.
This is the Trent Bown of which we were told! Stroke it! Let it fly! Air it out! Just the way he walks and talks to his teammates out there exudes confidence.
Luke Martin is very good. I rolled out of bed at 5:30a this morning, dazed and confused as usual, queued up Luke on the radio highlights and then I was jacked and ready to start the day!
Go Dawgs!
One of the better takeaways from the SIU victory was Kennard Davis defending their lead/point guard for the final 10-12 minutes. SIU needs to protect Xavier Johnson from guarding the point for 38 minutes per game. That is not sustainable over the season. If Davis can do this it will prevent wear and tear on Johnson over the grind ahead.
Kennard is gonna be a really good player in the Valley. He's gonna have to work on his offensive game over the Summer but his defense is already Valley-level. He reminds me a lot of Armon Fletcher.

Davis has some work to do to reach Fletcher's upperclassman-level offensive skillset but I would contend Davis is grittier/does more dirty work than Fletcher did. I don't remember Armon making a whole lot of "winning plays" other than scoring the ball, which granted, is valuable.
AJ Ferguson could also be in that Fletcher mold if he gets healthy and continues progressing.
A couple of observations from the game. The game was played very physical and it seemed it took us a few minutes in the beginning to adjust to the quickness of OSU. Once adjusted it was still a battle every possession….however the deciding factor was X. The cowboys just didn’t have an answer to his game once he adjusted after the first couple of minutes ( which was actually a pretty bad couple of minutes….had me worried). Once adjusted he drove to the basket at will and was able to free up his teammates for shots. We did have a couple of situations late in the game where we tried iso ball with X and it felt kind of forced….but other than that, no complaints.
OSU was able to get a few extra possessions with their offensive rebounding.
I did see Mullins asking the official about the T on TD and it appeared the official made mention of the T called earlier in the game on OSU player.
OSU players were wanting SIU to be T’d up for bench players running onto the court after the game appeared to be over on the last foul possession.
Noticed AD Tim Leonard appear to not be too pleased with the late officiating calls. He was close to where I was and the TD call and the first end of the game call did not appear to please him. Nothing out of line but nice seeing the competitive spirit in him.
Lastly…Barry got a nice ovation from the crowd when he was introduced…..wasn’t sure which direction that would go.
Go dawgs!!

X is 2nd in the US of A in scoring currently

I agree with the earlier poster that the call on OSU was probably not warranted either, but I enjoyed that call immensely. LOL That was definitely more trash talkey than what TD did,
Trash-talk king Larry Bird would have fouled out of every game with these refs. Nobody could out trash-talk the Bird.
I unfortunately didn’t record/see the game live, but I will say I appreciate how hard these guys are playing and I’m really happy with the success this far. No one gave these guys much of a chance this year, but a lot of folks on this team have stepped up big time. Especially given the injury/eligibility issues that have two likely starters/major contributors on the bench right now.
Now had an oppurtunity to watch the replay and that reversal of the basket interference has to be one of the most suspicious calls I've ever seen. The guy rattled the rim BEFORE the ball got there,so the fact the ball didn't go in might have been influenced. When a ball is on the rim and a player knocks it away,I have never, ever seen refs decide it wasn't going in. These refs seem to have a God complex reminiscent of the jackass (Valentine?) who T'd the mascot vs Kentucky Wesleyan
