Well shit that sucks. We really should not have given up that lead so quickly with so little time to play.

I think what's frustrating me the most with this group is how all the talk all off-season (and rightfully so) was the return of basically our entire team, yet we don't play like an experienced team. Lots of silly mistakes at the worst times, poor clock management and overall lack of awareness; game/time/score. Its happened twice now and its extremely disappointing. SIU should be 5-1.

SIU can hang with the upper level teams; need to keep improving.

Terrible last possession on defense with a foul to give. Down 4 at the half.

I guess this is the type of offense we will have until Domask starts scoring.

Serious question, how many extra fans can be expected to pay money to watch a team that can’t score any points outside of one guy?

We play great defense, which in my book is good basketball. Feel free to stay home, folks that appreciate good basketball will come see Southern play. Sheesh!!!!

If what you have seen so far is good basketball, I have no words.

I said we play good defense, which is good basketball. If you can't appreciate good defense you obviously don't know squat about basketball, which is kind of obvious from your posts..

I can appreciate good defense.  I cannot however appreciate the basic sh** show we have seen from this team overall this season.

Boring as hell.  Even some of the usual neutral commentators on here have spoken up.

You obviously haven't followed SIU for any amount of time. This program was built on defense and that has been priority#1 for a long time. SIU's current head coach is one their best all time defenders. Maybe you should find another team to follow, because SIU hasn't played the kind of basketball you consider good basketball for a couple decades. Even when we were a great team 2001-2007, we weren't a fabulous offensive team, but we were one of the best defensive teams in the country.

The game was lost on the 10-0 run.   I was honestly surprised and happy they kept it that close.  The reality is, this team isn't very good right now.  Hopefully they can turn things around by the time Valley season rolls around.  To avoid any meltdowns, please don't expect to beat Tulsa or San Fran on the road.  Other than those 2 games, SIU should get 6 wins sandwiched around those 2 and be above .500 prior to the meat of Valley play.

You won your bet.  Be happy.

This ending was an absolute shame. It was all right there for the taking.  Uggh.

Just have to win these big ones when the opportunity presents itself.

Exactly.  Those late turnovers were crucial - you don't even get a shot, or a possible trip to the line.  Empty possessions when you're trying to close out the game - that's where this game was lost, no doubt.

If you only knew.  I see someone can’t let it go from earlier in the game.

We played a great 2nd half, minus the 2 minute meltdown, which was the difference. Their stud freshman PG made a great play at the buzzer. We showed we can be a pretty good team. Give Creighton credit they played a great last 4 minutes. On the positive side, Domask found his shot and rhythm in the second half. Coupet, Domask & Jones all played very well. We aren't getting any at large bids, but we can take a lot from this trip, improve and compete for an mvc title, in my opinion. Muila and Coupet were great additions and I think we can just get better as the season progresses. We need to get Brown back for his D, shooting, and our team depth. Unfortunately, it sounds like Harvey will be not be coming back anytime soon.

I'd like to say something positive right now and there definitely were some positives.  But what's sticking in my craw is our experienced team blew an 8-point lead with less than four minutes to clutch defeat from the jaws of victory.

We let their 7-footer dunk on us three times in-a-row.  Domask threw the ball away. The Blue Jays scored 10 unanswered points.  All of this in the last few precious minutes.  It's just a bitter pill to swallow.  Our team lacks poise and is still not ready for prime time.

“If they were serious this year about winning” is a lazy rhetoric to describe any team, especially this one. You make it seem as if the guys aren’t going out there and playing their asses off to get a win. You can do better than that one.

Talking about the program as a whole.  Of course the players and coaches are serious about winning but it's been 13 long years since the program has won anything.  This was a year where they need to take a step forward and build momentum into next year.

I'm encouraged by how they played against Colorado and Creighton but they're still 2-3 and have an awful loss to a bad Little Rock team and a loss to a decent Northeastern team they should have beat.  Eventually this program has to turn the corner.

"Could have", "Should have".............................  Could this team have won the Paradise Jam? = Yes, I firmly believe they could have with a fully healthy team and the ball bounced the right way.  Could this team have gone 0-3? = Yes.   The facts are they went 1-2 and looked both good and bad at times.  This is what we get from an team still learning its identity.  While people will talk of all the returning minutes, a good portion of the minutes being played now are not from last year (Domask, Muila, Coupet).  I still believe in Mullins, although the leash is admittedly shorter, and think he will bring this team together by year end.  At the very least, the defense is back which means we can play with ANY team on the remainder of our schedule, including Loyola and Drake.

I really hope this Tournament was a launching pad for this program.  Outside of Tulsa (I'm being generous here because SIU is rated higher on KenPom), San Francisco, Loyola games, and Drake games; this team should be winning the majority of their games the rest of the season.  There shouldn't be any more excuses, it's time to win games and turn the corner.

I’ve thought all along this team would struggle finding its way early in the season and would be strong in Valley play, but it’s how they’re doing it that’s surprising and disappointing to me.

There’s a serious lack of poise and sound decision making that’s snake-bitten SIU in a big way. I was expecting better on that front from a Mullins coached team and a roster full of older players.

The loss to Northeastern and how it played out is the kind of loss I was expecting while the players and team settle into roles and an identity. However, having high-speed meltdowns in games that should’ve been in the bag is highly concerning.
