CSU beat Northeastern by 10. That's pretty impressive from Northeastern as CSU is pretty darn good this year.
Up by 8 with 3:45 to go, I thought we had it. Missed a couple of wide open threes or we win that game. Played a little panicked those last few minutes and made some TOs. Loved the way we played D and loved the rebounding by Lance Jones (9 boards)! We can play with anybody with that D.
Freighton was very lucky to win that game.
The 2021 Paradise Jam Men's All-Tournament Team is STACKED!
A lot of positives to take away from this tournament. Disappointed with the losses, but happy with the effort. I do believe Floorburn U is back. Adversity is a great test and we shall see whether SIU can build on some obvious disappointment. One thing is for sure, Lance Jones is the leader of this team right now. Hopefully he will step into that roll and be the catalyst that molds this team into a winner. I think all the ingredients are there for the Dawgs to become very solid come Arch Madness. Lets build on the positives, learn from the negatives and move on. It was a good tourney for SIU in a lot of ways and I hope the guys had some fun off the court and had time to enjoy their stay.
The only thing disappointing to me is the inability to close out games. We had UALR on the ropes and let them come back and beat us. We made turnover after turnover. The same thing happened today with Creighton. I don't fault our effort. But when you have a team down 8 with less than 4 minutes left, that should be a W. Once again, we showed a lack of poise and let them score 10 unanswered points. Got dunked on by the same guy three consecutive trips down the floor. Then allowed their PG to go coast-to-coast almost unguarded for a winning runner. So, my frustration is that this team should be 4-1, instead of 2-3. But they're not.
In a perfect world, sure. Up 8 with less than 4 minutes to go, I was excited. The wind was kind of taken out of me when that buzzer beater went in. This is college basketball, which is mostly a game of runs. We went on a run to build that lead. They went on a run to take it away. They'll be fine. They just didn't execute when they needed to. It happens.
Filewich had 10points. He is steadily progressing.

Filewich had a lot of good games at the end of last season. He hasn't been right so far this season, but last night he looked closer to what we know he can be. This week has shown me that while we need to be more consistent, we can definitely compete around the top of the Valley. Especially at home...
The funny thing about this tournament is that Southern played pretty well against the two "Power 6" teams but got manhandled by the "mid-major" team.

I don't know that I would label it manhandled
Hefferman is leaving the beat:
I am guessing it has some (a lot?) to do with this:
Hopefully the Southern can hire a young journalist who is a go getter trying to establish a resume in sports reporting. I am guessing that only someone starting out would be willing to work for the pennies the southern will be willing or able to pay. Hire a newbie, who isn't just a kiss ass, digs deeper and is more aggressive than Hefferman. He was pretty terrible.

I've heard that News 3 pays pretty low as well, and their news has turned into a pretty awful and embarrassing program over last few years. I hope that the new guy isn't actually worse...
It's the way it is in the newspaper industry now.
I worked for a newspaper for 30+ years, though not in the area of reporting. About 2 1/2 years ago, I was given "an offer I couldn't refuse" as the company had not been properly funding the pension plan for several years. I wanted to make sure that I got some money out of it. Within a year of that, the company had filed for bankruptcy and was then swallowed up by a hedge fund for pennies on the dollar. When I was there, at it's highest point (in the late 90's), there were probably 350-400 people working there between the main paper and associated weeklies. Now, the paper is printed a couple hundred miles away and trucked back. I talked to someone still at the paper and there are probably 20 people still working for the paper, all from home. There is no office anymore.

The Internet we love is a killer in so many ways. USAToday.com is quickly becoming a pay site. Won't be surprised if printed newspapers become the horse and buggy of news.
They have been the lowest paid in the area for decades. Their 34 year weatherman is retiring in a couple days.
