I can tell you and most here know it. I despise Bradley. With a burning passion. I took my 70 year old dad to a game there. When they started fading away we were pelted with Ice, coins, cups etc.. from above. The security laughed and said we were in their building. Complete and total jerk offs.  Although the guy next to us did apologize I would never root for Bradley ever I don’t care how much it helps the MVC.

This was bound to be an interesting topic.

I held back on my initial reaction to respond and several of the reasons to despise BU fans have been covered. I know quite a few BU grad/fans and an SIU grad who attended BU for two years. I also attend the SIU/BU game nearly every year. While they are passionate about their hoops, they are condescending a-holes for the most part.

A lot has to do with the fact that many Peorians attend BU, so there is some real homerism there. BU also recruits heavily and get quite a few east coasters to attend in order to get a Midwest "experience." I know many of this BU type who actually now live in the Midwest. When discussing BU, they frequently recite the line: "It's the Harvard of the Midwest." This is when I usually spit my beer out in laughter, sometimes getting it on them. The sad part is, they really believe it. I also have an EIU grad friend who says the same thing, he believes it too.

Delusional people.

"It's the Harvard of the Midwest" - This reminds me of something that I read on their message board recently.

To make a long story short...

There was one commenter who made a very optimistic claim about SIU and Mullins stating "I expect Mullins to get SIU to be the 'Gonzaga of the Midwest.'"

The reply: "SIU will never be the 'Gonzaga of the Midwest' as long as Bradley is in the Valley."

I'm not entirely sure that we will be the 'Gonzaga of the Midwest' anytime soon, however I'm pretty sure that Bradley will NOT be the team that keeps us from getting there. Ha! Yes, very delusional.

That doesn't seem any worse than we treated the Korvers.

Also? I wish I had a dollar for every school that claimed to be the "Harvard of the (fill in the blank)"!

Well, OK, you've got me there: I wouldn't be rich, but I would be drinking a really nice Macallan's right now instead of this Dewar's. 😛

Exactly, Morris! And that is why I tend to not write off entire fanbases: we have our share of a$$holes, yet on the whole we're a pretty decent bunch.

Absolutely revolting, that Korver thing...

Now let's sit back and watch the fine folks here talk about how that was "all in good fun" and such. Ugh. And from there we can move on to the folks who (back when we were good) would b!tch about the bigs not giving us home and home and then get angry that we were deigning to play lowly SEMO.

There are douche nozzles everywhere.

What happened to the Korvers? This was the era before I attended SIU.

Disgusting shit that would have been bad enough and "all in good fun" but for the fact that hideous scumbags were shouting it in the ear of his mother. And including her in it.

And a good percentage of posters here were just fine with that. "Funny!" "All in good fun!" "Part of the game!" Etc.

And  then, you know... those scumbag OTHER fan bases.... They are SHOCKING!

It was despicable and shameful. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.I'm still sickened and infuriated by it all, as much by the people on the predecessor boards who thought it was just A-OK (and they are still here)  as by the sh1tbag perpetrators.

I was never comfortable with that crude chant, either.  Now, when the SIU fans were mad at Phil Weaner (beat writer for The Southern) and that one guy made a sign that said "Phil my Weaner" ....THAT was funny.

My wife went to college with Kyle's dad at Central College.  I too was disgusted with the way our fans treated them.

Someone will probably tell you someday, no doubt. But it's a shameful episode that isn't worth dredging up, unless it's to reiterate an apology to the Korver family. Trust Saluki Insider old timers and leave it at that.  As was mentioned, all fan bases have their over the top jerks.

March on triumphantly!

I remember that era well and mostly very fondly.  I always felt the DawgPound and other student sections elsewhere were a great help to a team and I never wanted to put a mute button on them. However the Korver thing was over the top.  We had a great opportunity to be classy and blew it badly.   On the other hand I have been treated extremely bad by Illinois State fans on several occasions.  I got nothing good to say about them.  I went to a Western KY game at Bowling Green on a bus and our fans were pretty much sitting together.  Maybe a hundred of us altogether.  We became a quite loud and involved cheering section.  They had a all-star guard and future NBAer Courtney Lee. Tatum and Young wore him out, Falker ruled the middle, and we won a big game. As we were waiting one of their fans walked in front of us a gave one of our folk a solid punch to the chest.  Security was there and did nothing. On the other hand I went to the Butler Bracket Buster game and could not have been treated better.  Sorry to talk so long but I have nothing better to do.

I sat behind mrs. korver at arch madness one time.  she had her youngest son, who was then in the eighth grade, with her.  I asked her if he played basketball, and she replied he was better than kyle.  I told her siu would give him a scholarship right then.  we both laughed.  nice lady.

I believe the youngest Korver passed away a year or so ago.
