Two years ago, something like 14 of 15 all-MVC players were stolen by Pig-5 schools.

Last year Duke Deen was the only all-conference guy with eligibility left who stayed.
Yep, crazy days indeed. Let's see if SIU can buck the trend. Nagy wants to retain players and build the program that way. Tall task in today's NIL landscape. I expect both Dibba and Davis to be 2nd or 3rd team MVC this year. Two years ago, something like 14 of 15 all-MVC players were stolen by Pig-5 schools.

Not sure if you want to bring everyone back from a 9th place team. Some turnover is needed, hopefully not too much though
The players that really need to come back are Davis, Elliott, Dibba, Steffe, Aligbe and Mayo. The players that I'd like to come back but that are not as critical as the previously mentioned players are Sykes, Moreno, and Webber. Player I'm on the fence about is Bey. There will be transfers. If we can keep the critical core and add an impact transfer PG and PF we should be good to go. This team is 9-6 in it's last 15 games after they figured it out somewhat. With Elliott it would have been a much higher ceiling. I think using the 9th place team thing when considering how different this team has been the last 15 games and with Elliott being out isn't an accurate representation. In those 6 losses we have blown some big leads which is concerning, but even in those 6 losses we were very competitive. Not sure if you want to bring everyone back from a 9th place team. The sport has gotten so crazy now. These coaches/administrators weren’t trained as professional GMs/salary gurus.
How much money do you throw at a star player or two, knowing that you may have little for the rest of the roster if you get very aggressive? How do you deal with the offer for a guy like Elliott with injury questions. Do you consider only paying 7-8 guys substantially and only making token offers to the rest in a quality over quantity approach?
Tricky questions with critically important answers.
I know Nagy has said he feels better about investing in returnees than trying to woo portal additions, so we’ll see how it plays out.
Kennard being 6'6" with the athleticism and defense to lock up high major guys, all while increasing his 3pt to 37% means he is absolutely on power 5 radars already.
I hope he stays. But it's doubtful in my mind.

In my mind, Davis and Dibba are the two that could move up...Davis is most attractive of the two (given eligibility and skill set). I wouldn't be surprised if Elliot got some offers, even with the injury, given how he looked like our best player for those 5 games, but I don't think it will be at a level that we couldn't compete with, if we chose.
Steffe, if he's able to continue playing like this, could be someone to worry about next year, but I would be surprised if he left, given his relationship with Hawkins.
If anyone else leaves, I wouldn't expect it to be for financial reasons.
Davis is the type of player I could see playing at Iowa State.
Tremendous fan base at Iowa State. I live in Des Moines area now.Davis is the type of player I could see playing at Iowa State.
Tyler Bey is going to be a stud. I hope he sticks around.
So I've always been a high school basketball fan, my family has had "season tickets" at our alma mater for decades now. But this year in particular, I've really been engaging in it more than ever. Just really getting into it. I bought the NFHS Network so that I could watch many more games than just at the local hometown gym. As some of you know, I'm from DuQuoin - not necessarily a basketball school haha, but I enjoy watching players that you can really study up on because they're not going to leave your program high and dry next year. I mean, I never fooled myself into thinking that college basketball was about education - even in the Tatum and Falker years - but it's peacefule....yes, that's the word...peaceful.... knowing that the players you're watching at a Southern Illinois River to River game will be in class at (your) school the next day and engaged in the community that weekend.
Furthermore, I enjoy watching the big three programs from the SIRRM - Pinckneyville, Benton, and Nashville - and taking pride in the fact that those three schools could represent our conference and the Southern Illinois region at the State tournament. And I don't have to worry about programs getting sooo good and sooo full of themselves that they'll jump to the Fox Valley Conference four hours away or some goofy weird shit. You don't have to worry about the "I want (player/team) to do well, but not that well..."
A lot of it is probably just me being in denial over the state of the NCAA. Just covering my ears and trying to pretend that I don't hear the noise. I don't think I've been in the recruiting threads of our 2025 commits. What's the point? They'll just need to be "recruited" for their sophomore years too..
I've only been to three games at Banterra this year and haven't watched more than two minutes of the Dawgs on ESPN+, which I've had rebill on for five years now. Half of the reason is because of our inconsistent play and the other half is because of SIU's very poor broadcast quality.
I long for the days when I was a teenager at the 2007 Carbondale Holiday Tournament - Carl Richard was an incoming recruit at Indiana State and when I remarked to an ISUblue recruiter than I liked his new prize, he said to me, "Thanks, but I like yours a little better.." as he pointed to Anthony Booker sitting up in the stands. *sigh*
@uncledawgpound Layton Hawkins there is probably going to be very good, who knows maybe another Hawkins for the dawgs but won't know for a few years. A few kids around here I would like to see play for SIU, the rim is still 10 ft in high school and some of them shoot or put it down with far more authority than some of the soft play I have seen from the current college landscape.
As far as current dawgs returning, I would take any of them as long as we have 2 point guards, don't want a repeat of this year in that aspect.
So, as long as academic progress meets the standard, anyone can transfer multiple times with immediate eligibility. Am I reading this correctly?
@salukian looks like it to me and I am sure there won't be any tampering on transcripts
