Introducing the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET), a modernized metric replacing the RPI this season.
The entire press release about this year's schedule, including comments from BH, are all about RPI and how this schedule was aimed at increasing the strength of our RPI. I know it can't hurt the new system, but I find that funny.
Aug 23, 2018 Somehow todd hefferman believes Southern will tie a RPI record this year.
"SIU's three non-conference games against teams that finished the previous season in the top 26 of the RPI will tie a school record set during the 2001-02 season..." https://thesouthern.com/sports/college/salukimania/saluki-basketball-to-open-season-at-kentucky-yes-kentucky/article_641ef1fc-8cb8-5456-aa1b-30d7c5627de2.html
Hey todd: The NCAA tournament selection process is finally ditching the RPI ...

Very cool, we open against UK in Lex. I can't wait. I'll be there, in Lex for certain, and hopefully at the game to wear Maroon and root for the 'cats to begin the end of the last season of the little huckster's clown show (I know, not likely as long as our illustrious leadership at SIU blah blah blah...….).
My daughter attends UK and maybe I'll get her to attend at least one game afterall.
Go Dawgs!

Be sure to tell her to be careful; there's sharks in the Kentucky river...

C'mon, tell the joke. Clean it up a tad if you have to.
March on triumphantly!
There's some good in this here NET system, the biggest being that cap of 10 points applied to a margin of victory to help deter teams from running up the score on cupcakes to improve their ratings. That was always a problem with Pomeroy and Sagarin. I also like seeing that this system treats every game with equal importance, no matter when it was played. For most of the mid-majors in the at-large bubble, their non-con season's hugely important, while the big boys never really had to come out of the gate strong, as they know they've got a ton of conference games where they can make an impression.
I guess the real test of the NET will be where we find all of those mediocre .500 Power conference teams ranked when we hit the middle of January. Remember, Loyola was actually in danger of not getting an at-large bid last season despite rolling over the Valley, while the usual .500 BCS dreck was mostly safe.
