I'm WONDERING "aloud" if Nagy's determined commitment to defense, along with an up-tempo offense, would inherently force him to play more than 8. I'm not saying equal amounts by any stretch but say having an extra guy or 2 who is more than capable of giving guys a breather after extending themselves out there. Just a thought...............

Agreed. Also, even if he sticks to an eight-man rotation, that rotation is likely to vary from game to game for quite a few potential reasons, so it's quite possible 10 or 11 guys will get decent-sized chunks of playing time throughout the season.
@ajcsaluki I suspect Coach Nagy is going to use playing time as a tool to develop and maintain competition within the team. An 8 man rotation creates more internal competition than a 10-11 man rotation.
On the new March to the Arch podcast, Nagy once again said he thinks this team should be “great” defensively, and he’s not the type to throw around happy talk. He’s said that in just about every interview I’ve heard, so let’s hope that shows up in a big way.
Really enjoyed his commentary about the balance of playing fast/looking to be a high-scoring team with still emphasizing defense.
If you put much stock into BartTovik’s preseason rankings, SIU is at 100th in adjusted defense and 200th in adjusted offense. I think the hope for this year is that defensive prediction holds and Nagy is good enough of a coach to raise the offense.

I think you will see BOTH rankings improve as the season goes on.

A new podcast interview with Nagy. He says that he was "running out of gas" at Wright State but feels rejuvenated by the move to Southern, says he's curious how his uptempo scheme will fit in the traditionally slower-paced MVC and goes more into his philosophy of still focusing on retaining players rather than wanting to be portal-heavy. There's also more background on his South Dakota St./Wright St. years ...
Boy coach is nothing if not straight forward! I really like his direct approach. He's not going to sugarcoat anything. Sounds like he thinks we can win right away. I think this team has the talent, they just have to come together and hopefully be at least an average outside shooting team. I think we will excel in all other aspects and if we can at least hold our own from deep we will be tough to beat. Very interesting conversation about Nagy's style compared to the rest of the Valley. If we combine the uptempo with solid D and toughness we can hopefully have success. If we are uptempo but soft we will not have success. I think he is the kind of coach that demands toughness in his players.https://twitter.com/Moneyline_Mac/status/1828523731041558578

I didn’t have as much of a problem with Hinson as some did other than the mediocre results he gave but Nagy is a night and day difference from him in interviews. No BS coming from him.
Blue Ribbon has SIU finishing 7th. I think it's too low but with all the turnover, this league is almost impossible to predict after Bradley and Northern Iowa (for me).
My initial reaction is that we're picked a few notches too low, UIC is picked way too low, Drake is too high (seems based on recent results and reputation, but then again, McCollum has a fine reputation and did bring in some good players), and Belmont is too high (lost a lot of top-tier talent). But I've said all along that with so much upheaval, we won't know until the games begin. Coaching could be more important than ever, and I think we're in good shape there.
Middle of the pack. That sounds about right from a coach who had to rely on the transfer portal. The real progress should be made when coach Nagy can recruit his own players. Kills me to see ISU ranked higher, but their relatively new coach has had a chance to get his own players. Hopefully, this team continues to get better throughout the season. That did not happen last year.
