Luke Martin with Drew Steffe:
I think Steffe is going to be SO GOOD that we will worry about him moving "on" in the next year or two. Hoping that by having Hawkins, and WINNING, we are able to keep him here. Another all valley potential player here. I'd also like to see his Brother come in 4 years. : )

I agree, he's gonna be a huge part of this team even if he doesn't start. Our options at 2-guard this year compared to last is a huge upgrade
I am really enjoying the interviews thus far. (Thanks Luke!)These recruits/players have been impressive in their interviews. Seem to be extremely mature, and intelligent. Combine these intangibles with their athletic and basketball abilities, and we certainly could be in for a fun run of Saluki basketball over the next few years.

GO DAWGS!!!
Might wanna slow the roll on Steffe. He’s a great shooter, but he’s a Fr , hasn’t played and isn’t lightening quick. I think he’ll play a role but it may take a bit.
It's the quickness or possible lack there of that will be the key. He'll need to be able to guard other 2's and possibly the occasional 3. If he's getting blown by that will affect his minutes greatly. Hopefully he is quicker than Foster Wonders.Might wanna slow the roll on Steffe. He's much quicker than Wonders lol they are not that similar besides good shooters. Look up highlights or read scouting reports. Also helps that he spent 6+ months practicing again Big 12 competition last year
Your grandpa is quicker than Foster Wonders.
I've seen highlights and read scouting reports. I know his overall game is better than Wonders. I was just making a point that Wonders sat because he was slow and couldn't play D. I have much higher expectations for Steffe. However, if he isn't quick enough to guard initially it will certainly hurt his chances to be a major part of the rotation. It's the quickness or possible lack there of that will be the key. That's probably true even though my grandpa has been quite a bit slower following his death in 1989.Your grandpa is quicker than Foster Wonders.
Steffe’s role will be very interesting. On one hand, Dibba, Davis and Mayo will need A LOT of minutes at the 2/3 spots given all they bring to the table at both ends. On the other hand, Steffe projects as the team’s top 3-point shooter, and floor spacing to create lanes for SIU’s many athletic slashers is going to be very important.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Steffe play around 20 minutes a game as one of the first few guys off the bench, but we’ll see.

About 15-20 minutes a game off the bench is what I'm seeing for Steffe. I'd wager he'll be tasked with sparking the offense when its sluggish or when we're not shooting it well.
I'd be very surprised if he gets less playing time than that. It'd mean his defense is much further behind what we're currently being led to believe.

@bleedfknmaroon25 Yes, if not more PT. If Nagy plans to up-tempo/run as many assume, he will need to keep a lot of fresh legs on the floor.
Like posters above, I'm excited about this kid, yet understand his raw status. But hey, keep the roll going. It's July and I'm bored out of my gord.
Happy Independence Day Saluki Insiders!
March on triumphantly!

Great conversation. Hawkins has a lot of personality and a really interesting lifetime of basketball experience. Fun few minutes toward the end recalling his near-miss with becoming an SIU assistant under Herrin only to be beat out by Rodney Watson.
Great addition to the coaching staff, and he sounded very enthused about the overall makeup of the staff.
