I'm was so impressed with Coach Hawkins in this interview! Super smart guy and I didn't realize he had such a wealth of experience!!

I'm pretty sure Hawkins was the coach when Carlton Fay lit up WMU for 38 pts at the arena. I was at that game - lots of fun!

This is a really great staff top to bottom. If Bryan would have had someone like coach Hawk sitting next to him his tenure might have turned out differently. I also think this staff is well equipped to get these players up to speed and ready to play together more quickly than many other coaching staffs are capable of. The focus these coaches display and appear to have is impressive. It's early but this program went from a potential historic dumpster fire in mid March to a hopefully pretty optimistic outlook in very short order!

@siudawgs

Well he got beat out of that position by a good coach in RW.  Coach Watson had a pretty good run as an assistant at SIU and a HC at USI.

RW always kept continuity between staffs when it meant trying to hold a teamtogether so it wasn't a total rebuild which would have been much tougher back then

Better late than never for Jorge, and good to get a second big-bodied guy in the mix with Webber. Will be interesting to see how he fits in.

Also interesting that Coach Nagy describes him as an "immediate impacter". I suppose that can be a bit ambiguous, but to me suggests he's expected to be more than the depth piece I was thinking would be his ceiling this year.

Practices should be super intense the closer we get to tip-off.

Nagy is not afraid to play freshman. If Webber is in shape/puts in the work expected he'll play some big mins for us. I truly believe that

Considering the other tall guys on the roster are the lanky/lean types, other than Aligbe, who seems like a redshirt candidate, there is major opportunity for both Moreno and Webber to anchor the 5 spot - just a matter of who can take advantage.

I expect Webber to play a big role, maybe even start once he's fully up to speed. I'm sure Nagy already has a bit of a comfort level with him due to his prior familiarity recruiting him to Wright St.

High hopes for this kid. He brings a combination of size, strength and athleticism at the 5 that nobody else can provide.
