Just happened to be on the Missouri S&T athletics site earlier for a personal reason and happened to see a game vs. SIU pop up on the coming events side of the website.
Looks like we will host them on Nov. 8.

I'm assuming this will be the first "official" home game of the season and of the Nagy era. We may have an exhibition before this.
S&T is D2 so playing up against SIU will be an exhibition for them, but this will count as a real game for the Dawgs. However, it won't count for the NET or RPI, as far as I know.
I'm assuming this will be the first game after the Field of 68 vs. Charleston. I was hoping for a sexier opener after that game. If the Dawgs start strong, there could be a lot of buzz come that weekend.
But I get wanting to open at home with a lesser opponent since so many guys will have so many jitters with a whole new roster practically. Just wish the lesser opponent wasn't a D2. Miners went 15-12 last season. Assuming the Dawgs are paying a nice guarantee to buy this one.
Absolutely fucking unacceptable.
What a fucking embarrassment.
I almost posted que Spike earlier.

Whaa whaaaa. Any comments on the other supposed game? At Florida? Or only when you wanna complain
It's a completely new team with a new coach. I'd rather play SWAC teams than non-D1 games because those count for NET/KenPom but I think an easier game could be good to get a lot of players some run and figure out lineups early in the season.

Thank you. It's not hard to understand. Especially if it's just one game. We already have more than one solid game on schedule
And I was just trying to figure out how to block him.I almost posted que Spike earlier.
Looking at Nagy's schedules at Wright State over the past few years there, I am not surprised by the opener. And as long the number of Division II games is reined in, I am not particularly upset about it for reasons that already have been put forth. College of Charleston is one of the nation's premier mid-majors and will be a challenging matchup. Florida, if that game becomes reality, is expected to be one of the SEC's top teams, has been listed on many "way too early" top 25 lists, and is almost unbeatable at home. So, while the opener might not be the best, it's understandable as a way to transition into the season. In fact, it's not really much different than the way every SIU coach going back to Lambert has scheduled -- the opener might have been against a decent Division I program, but the nonconference schedule usually had Division IIs, NAIAs and even Division IIIs (when I was in school, Roosevelt and William Jewell were regulars).
I can stomach a yearly D2 opponent as it is getting harder to schedule out of conference quality opponents who want to come to Southern but I would rather do 2 for 1 with a power 5 than buy games at least 2 for 1 you get a power 5 to come to Southern just like last year with OSU
Well sure, i'm sure Nagy would rather do that too, problem is no smart power 5 coach would ever do such a thing. See what happened to Oklahoma States coach after he did it? lolI can stomach a yearly D2 opponent as it is getting harder to schedule out of conference quality opponents who want to come to Southern but I would rather do 2 for 1 with a power 5 than buy games at least 2 for 1 you get a power 5 to come to Southern just like last year with OSU
@salukiworld Chomp Chomp. But what do I know? I apparently never have any good info.
Dawgs looking at two games in Florida. I heard Fort Myers is nice as well.

Is it possible one is an MTE? If it's Florida Gulf Coast, I'd imagine it's a home and home and they'd be in Carbondale next year
Both SIU and SLU are in somewhat similar spots. Would make sense to play them. SLU is supposedly hosting an MTE with teams to be announced. Could even get in that if it worked out.
There will be more buy games in the future as it can help fill the NIL coffers.
Take more than buy games to fill the cofers
Well of course, but that’ll be part of it.
