@spike You forgot #5. Firing Squad and not the one where you lose your job.
I'm good with the way things are currently. Don't care much for the payment to players or free agency every year. Destroying the game in my honest and humble opinion.
Now that the players are paid employees, there should be contractual obligations in place to help prevent the annual free agency fire sale and to better protect the players and their universities. Hell, get agents representing the players and their families involved in the recruiting process.
This is the path college athletics has chosen. Might as well do it right.
As for our schedule, I have no real complaints outside of the non-d1 home tilt (I'd still rather see a low-tier d1 instead), but overall its challenging, yet should also give this team enough breathing room to gel without taking on too many early L's.
Playing a low D1 makes no sense anymore if you can help it. D2 doesn’t hurt your NET while a low D1 absolutely will. Until that changes, this is what you’ll see.
How are you going to make Power 4 schools schedule you they are not so that shrinks the pool of teams to pick from and playing low major teams count against all the metrics for a at large bid so playing non d1 is more beneficial so how are you going to solve all the problems of non d1 teams and your punishment isn't going to work because most teams don't make post season anywayAt some point the NCAA needs to step in and punish schools playing non D1 teams.
1st infraction you are banned from the postseason.
2nd you forfeit your share of the conference postseason money for that season along with the ban.
3rd infraction death penalty.
4th program dissolved and cannot be restarted for 25 years.
I would think we MIGHT see the conference schedule this week. Does anyone have any insight on this? Trying to plan on annual trips to Normal, Valpo, Chicago and Nashville (was incredible last year).
What's the policy for attending practices? Are they closed? Do you have to be a donor, or will Coach Nagy allow fans to attend some practices? I'm posting in this thread because it seems I can't post in others. Thanks.
Pretty sure the Gulf Coast Showcase is one of the last MTEs in the country not to announce the field/bracket. Doesn’t seem especially helpful from an attendance/trip-planning standpoint.
There is a women’s field for the event that happens after the men’s tournament and that bracket was released last week, FWIW.
Well it looks like we will not see the conference schedule this week. I know it came out on Sept 15th back in 2022 and just after that in 2023. Hoping next week is THE week. Let's go...........we've got planning to do !!!!
@insaluki I completely agree with the planning part. I have also seen nothing on the golf tournament or fundraising dinner. Are those not planned for this year? Will there be a preseason meet and greet with the players and coaches, both men’s and women’s teams?

Lots of Saturday home games this year. Nice!

I was hoping/expecting the schedule to come out this week. Initial thoughts/plans are:
5-Jan | SUNDAY | ILLINOIS STATE | MAYBE |
8-Jan | WEDNESDAY | BELMONT | YES |
25-Jan | SATURDAY | UIC | YES |
28-Jan | TUESDAY | VALPO | YES |
12-Feb | WEDNESDAY | BRADLEY | NO |
2-Mar | SUNDAY | INDIANA STATE | MAYBE |
Add to this, one planned trip to Carbondale as well TBD. Let's go Dawgs !!!
In addition to the quirky back-to-backs with Missouri State, the other thing that jumped out at me was Bradley being the very early Valley game in early December. If Southern is going to be a surprise team in the upper tier, that home game with the preseason favorites is a biggie.

I like that students are gonna be on campus for that game
I don't see the Gulf Coast Showcase being updated, either on their site or on bloggingthebracket.com which still shows five teams with three more TBA. There are no D-1 teams available, according to bloggingthebracket.com, so I don't know what they will do. Will they fill the three slots with D-2/3 teams, NAIA teams? Will they cancel the tourney? Will some other arrangements be made? Maybe the tourney has eight teams, but no announcements or updates have been made. Does anyone know anything?
BTW, this is my first post here in five years. haha

Not sure how it’s going to be resolved but it’s definitely bizarre. Not sure how you’d make five teams work.
Apparently the trend of more MTEs being hosted on campus has dramatically shrunk the pool of schools available for events like this and it looks like the Gulfcoast Challenge is losing the game of musical chairs.
