I was sitting here trying to think, on a normal season with everyone healthy, what the likely lineup would be.
Would it be:
Muila, Domask, Harvey, Jones, Brown?
Muila, D'Avanzo, Domask, Harvey, Jones?
Muila, D'Avanzo, Domask, Jones, Banks?
Muila, Domask, Harvey, Jones, Banks?
Something weird like Filewich, Muila, Domask, Jones, Banks/Brown?

I think conventional wisdom before Muila got hurt was Jones, Harvey, Domask, D'Avanzo, Muila.
Guessing now D'Avanzo slides to the 5 and they go with a smaller group, with Banks or Verplancken or maybe the grad transfer Long sliding into the starting mix.
I’m hearing Verplancken is giving people fits in practice with his ability to score. Some have said he’s now easily our best guard, maybe best player if not Domask. I would guess our lineup will be
Jones, Verplancken, Harvey, Domask and D’Avanzo

If Verplancken can make a relatively smooth adjustment to D-I, that would be another very helpful piece to making the Salukis much more dangerous offensively these next few years. He's one of the guys I'm most interested to check out in the coming weeks.
How did he end up at a D2? And not even a very good D2 at that?
Let's not forget that he had multiple games last year, as a freshmen, against D1 competition and fared pretty well. Had 21pts, 6 assists and 3 rebounds vs Davidson as well as 15pts, 2 assists and 3 rebounds vs Marshall. While the Marshall game was a blowout, the Davidson game was very close so those were not garbage stats.
Dont try actual logic with Spike. It does not work
That was an actual question. He almost made some national youth teams in Belgium and played for some good teams there.
Players with his profile tend not to go to bad D2 programs. Was there an academic issue? Was it because he went to a really small West Virginia private school?
I am not doubting him at all, just find it odd.

Ok sorry.

I believe I saw in an interview somewhere where someone asked him that very question. I think his response was something along the lines of having developed an early and strong connection with that teams coach and choosing that school because of that relationship in spite of receiving D1 interest later on. I can't find where I saw it, or I'd post the link.
--Insert something witty here--
If Mullins can re-instill the Floorburn U style defense from 02 to say 08 while getting players who can score at the other end I think this team can return to the prominence it had. SIU was already close to being what it was defensively last year(15th in nation I believe). The only thing missing is a real true big, but I have hopes Filewich was maybe an under the radar guy and Ebube by some accounts is kind of a steal.
Aaron Cook played 11 minutes for #1 Gonzaga, so we got that to talk about.
“The best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores.”

I believe the stats don't tell the entire story. The main factor for the defensive stats was SIU holding the ball until the end of the shot clock on many possessions. I believe this year we may see a better defensive team in the true definition. That, along with an assumed improvement in offense, means this team can finish in the top 3 if all goes well.
