Just curious if anyone knows (sorry if I missed it) if SIU is doing any scrimmages (secret or not) this preseason.   Also, I see a lot of teams are doing semi-formal inter-team scrimmages (Duke, Wisconsin, Louisville, etc) with some of them being available for fan viewing.  Why doesn't SIU do that?  I remember the good old days of "Midnight Madness" with scrimmage, dunk and 3pt contest, etc.  So much fun.

TrillyDonovan on Twitter has our Secret Scrimmage against Western Kentucky.  No info on date though, could have already happened for all we know.

WKU should be a pretty competitive test. They have a couple key returners, but hit the portal hard and their transfers are pretty eye popping on paper. They got a late season starter from Purdue, a contributor from Georgia Tech, a couple JUCO All Americans, plus several other very decent transfers. Also, they have big time size and length up and down the roster. It will be very interesting to hear how we fair.

IMO: We should make a concentrated effort to play WKU more often. Distance is certainly manageable, and it makes for a competitive game between two Mid Majors.

Completely agree.  We need a home and home series with Western Kentucky.

According to this article, Xavier (the Musketeers, not Johnson) is the other scrimmage opponent for Southern in addition to WKU. No dates mentioned.

I know some were posting in the Roster thread, but I felt the scrimmage might better suited for................the scrimmage thread.  : )

We all know these are highlights ONLY but still saw some good things, especially from the freshmen.  I stand by my thoughts a year ago, Davis can be all Valley in the near future.

Playing scrimmages that don't count for shit against Western Kentucky and Xavier and then scheduling a regular season game against a D2 school is fucking disgusting and shows everything wrong with college basketball.

Don't really get why anyone would complain about SIU's schedule this year.  The only thing that upsets me is it comes in a year where they could have used an easier schedule.

Because there is no excuse for ever playing a non D1 school.

There are almost 400 D1 programs.

Any school that willingly schedules a non-D1 school should be ineligible for the post season and their share of tournament money for the first offense.

If you do it again, program Death penalty.

This embarrassment has to stop.

I do not care about a lower division school on the schedule it is better than a quad 4 loss which hurts the Net rankings and with all of the power 5 conferences changing you better get used to weaker scheduling because they aren't going to play mid majors anymore
