If we play the way we did tonight, we could lose all of these. Hope we can win a few at least. Dia didn't have a great game tonight and they still spanked us. Poor shooting, poor defense, and poor offense in general.

This team has not improved as the season has gone a long. Not a good sign.

I don't think tonight was that bad, Belmont is really good at home.  I just wish I had more confidence in these games but SIU has been beating the bums and losing to the good teams for way too long.

I agree with Salukiworld this was a game of not being able to put the biscuit in the basket. Belmont is a different team at home. I don’t think we played awful. Our defense wasn’t great, but Belmont made a lot of tough shots and some easy ones too of course. Guilespie was unconscious. We had a lot of good looks that didn’t go down (from inside and outside). Sometimes that’s just how it goes. We killed them on the boards and got up 9 more shots than them…if you shoot better than 37% from the field you are in that game. No one could really get going for whatever reason.

Reasonable guess is we go 2-3 in those games, which would put us at exactly .500 in conference.

just can’t get excited to watch and I found that out because I forgot about this game.
I like our players. I like Brian. I think he’s going to be a good coach, someday.

yeah and I'm thinking that puts siu around 500 in mvc play in the last 5 years overall. I hate that. There is no reason to even bring up making the postseason until siu can actually compete in their  conference. I will say that I'm numb to the losing, doesn't even bother me anymore.

When Hensley scored eight in his season debut at Wichita in December, who would've thought his season would turn into this? He grabs a few boards here and there and plays hard but there are too many weak points in his game, both offensively and defensively, for him to be a difference-maker.

And the scary thing is he has been the most impactful of the four portal transfers. It's even more jarring that Stulic, Miller and McGee are bench-warmers. Southern's returnees deserve a lot of credit for getting the team at least to respectability with virtually no help from the portal class.

I still think this team is going to find a way to finish 3-2... Not sure where that will seed them but an 11-9 finish is something we would have taken in a heartbeat when the year started.  Even 10-10 and a top 6 finish sounded too good to be true.  This teams expectation was never to win the Valley, it was to be competitive at best and give themselves a shot down the stretch.

I agree with the 3-2, and that the team is exceeding expectations. I'll let the season end before any judgment. Being picked 9th with a staff in year 5 , that basically hasnt won anything of importance and no help in sight is a big problem and expectations should be higher. That's my only gripe. If the AD, siu, and fans are good with that I guess I'll  have to be, because I still give money and go to games.

Well all teams are different. Last years was expected to compete for the Valley title and did.  Hinson's expectations year to year ranged from doormat to hopeful Valley contender.  His last year was legit championship or bust, that is the way the roster was constructed.  Everyone knew this year was not a championship year, Mullins setting high expectations is a good thing, it doesn't mean we believe it every year.  The Panthers will say their goal is to win the Super Bowl next year, they know damn well they are not going to.  You are not going to have a championship contender every year.  Kansas doesn't, Duke doesn't, UNC doesn't, Kentucky doesn't, SIU certainly will not.

SIU had no shot to win this game from early in the 1st half so to say we had  a chance is just coach talk.  We played and looked like what we are, a 5th-9th place team in the Valley.  But stop beating up on the coach bc we were picked 9th so anything above that is just gravy, nevermind that we are in year 5 with absolutely NO hopes (as of today) of being better next year or anytime soon with their lack of recruiting.
