This is a very offensively challenged team. It is actually a tribute to the tough defense that SIU plays to be where we are. As previously stated the shooting of Coupet and Verplancken is sorely missed. I certainly hope Domask, Jones and XJ are back next year if not, it is going to be a very rough ride.
SIU was a mediocre team with the guys you mentioned. They were OK but not difference-makers. Not shedding tears over their departures.
Now Foster Wonders not being a scoring threat or even threat to take off his warmups, that is a problem.
After this disaster of a week for the saluki’s, I have greatly lowered my expectations for winning the valley
It’s almost unbelievable that there will be eight of the 12 teams with either four or five losses after tonight
So basically, I just want us to finish in the top 4 so we get to play on Friday at the tournament. But with 8 of the 12 teams separated by just one loss, every Friday game is going to be potentially a close game because all eight teams can beat each other.

They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.
Don’t have the horses to pull out 3 wins in the Tourney. It’s an improvement from last year, but Mullins needs help recruiting some athletes.
We have 3 players that are seeing playing time that I would like to see replaced by some of the guys that right now are seeing no game action. Their contribution is minimal at best and the younger players have much more offensive up side.
Was anyone else surprised to learn that Newton was 7th in the MVC in scoring two years ago?
I sure was. Looked it up and Newton has 5 more field goals and finished one spot ahead of Lance Jones for the 20-21 season.
There is our 3rd scorer and our Big 3. But it just hasn’t happened.
Is the emphasis on defense so immense that guys struggle on offense because of it? I have no idea.
But I do know Trent Brown was an all-world 3-point shooter before he came to SIU. But nothing much here.
These are some of the questions I wish I had answers to.

Marcus playing 117 of 120 minutes in 3 consecutive days is never going to work. And they pretty much have to do it to have any shot.

I understand the point of view. But my question for you… who does? No teams in this conference are consistent enough to win 3 straight, but someone will win 3 straight.
Bryan Mullins postgame with Rodney Watson (tech problems apparently postgame):

Depending on matchups: Bradley, Drake, and Belmont. UNI can too. We don’t matchup well against any of them on a neutral or away venue.

I’d like to see more Newton drives/cuts and less Newton 3s. Same with Lance for that matter.
i trust in Mullins but he showed how green our coaching staff really is. i expected to lose this but this was not acceptable. bench management and heart were very questionable again. getting your star 5 shots is a failure. missing point blank over and over is not acceptable. we have no desire to get after 50-50 balls. the constant fumbles and lack of court awareness (stepping out of bounds) are a serious issue at this point in the season. i had already written off this game but two losses on the road swing is garbage.
At this point matchups don't really matter if you cannot make layups, free throws, rebound, or limit turn overs. BM always says the Salukis should be playing our best basketball in February/March; and that is simply not happening. This is the same ol same ol. Very happy to be where we are at this point, but it's starting to slip away unfortunately, and there seems to be little change in our game strategy. Once again, we have been diagnosed and the opposition is taking advantage. Not to mention the careless cross court passes.
March on triumphantly!

We beat Belmont by like 20 lol. I don’t want to sound too overly positive, but the sky falls every time we lose on this site. And UNI, they beat us on their court with Born going out of his mind. Bradley, let’s see what happens when they go to our place.
Nobody is consistent. We’re just as qualified as any.
Pretty disappointing outing by Lance. While Domask had very difficult matchups with Leons and Henry, that wasn’t the case for Lance. He needs to be a reason SIU beats Bradley in the rematch(es), not a liability for much of the game.
That said, five shot attempts for Marcus is obviously not going to cut it.
Even more disappointing performance by Domask - made 1 of 5, was repeatedly beaten on D by Henry.
Lance was pretty good in the 2nd half and played tough D. Leading scorer.

Neither were good, but again, the point is Jones had much more favorable matchups. Both guys need to be better next time.
