The offensive rebounds and turnovers suck, but we we’re still in it. Missing those bunnies all night really hurt, the miss on the front end of the one and one was killer too.
How we stepped out of bounds in the corner 3 separate times…sweet Jesus have some court awareness (Banks did it twice!). I expected a loss but man we didn’t make them earn it, we gave it to them.
it was sarcasm yes, im just tired of it being a pattern to throw in a lineup that kills momentum every game. everyone on the team is talented and has something to offer, just play them at the right time. it has gotten to the point where im going to start playing russian roulette when the staff makes first half subs. and then im going to put 3 more bullets in when they do that same stuff in the second half. seriously? it is absurd. that said bryan is cool and down to earth, pumped when he came, still glad he is here but come on. if someone is having an off night replace them for a bit individually, dont just throw in a whole new lineup. it seems simple to me, but i am drunk and probably wrong. playing like it is hockey with multiple lines with this team will not get it done, especially when some of the players that should get a little time on certain nights that could help dont get to play. expected to lost if bradley put up 70, maybe 66. im bummed but not even half as much as the il st gamei thought the coaching was fantastic, especially that lineup in the first half that scored like 0 points in eight minutes after we took an early lead. bright notes, officiating was great. did not realize the game was sponsored by a traveling agency that also does not call you while they move your screens up their own bunghole. maybe if lance backed up a few feet we would have had 0 more points. salukis definitely did an awesome job of keeping the braves off the boards.im very optimistic and thrilled about our chances in march. overall i could not be more impressed as well as pleasantly surprised
🤣 🤣
I know this is sarcasm, but highlighted is what I thought was Bryan's first of several major coaching mistakes on the night; we started the game with good intensity defensively and a nice rhythm on offense, particularly with Newton scoring 5 straight. Bryan then promptly replaces Newton, Rupert and Johnson with Banks, D'Amico and Muila and we go on a huge scoring drought. Changed the game, IMO.
Also, we have size ... can we please, PLEASE use more of it when we are getting absolutely crushed on the glass??
Gosh, I really like Bryan Mullins, but my goodness he still has a lot of growth to do as a head coach.
im so irritated ill reply correct that i meant lose and not lost in that comment
We have 3 players that are seeing playing time that I would like to see replaced by some of the guys that right now are seeing no game action. Their contribution is minimal at best and the younger players have much more offensive up side.
Which 3?
When I looked at the MVC schedule I thought man, Bradley and ILL St on the road in back to back games sucks… and it did… but it’s over and the top of the conference is a mess and we are still a team at the top. We own tie breaks over many of the teams behind due to sweeps/or splits + NET and are 1-0 vs Belmont. You’re in first place, with 2 home games coming up. Go 2-0 and find a road win against Drake or Valpo and it sets up huge home games with Bradley and UNI. If we go to UIC in the final day of the season and need a win for the title or top 4, I think we get it done. They’re in position to win it, everything still in front of them and not one game left I look at and say they can’t win that one. Instead of bemoaning a tough week let’s pack the house Sunday and Wednesday and help these guys win a conference championship. Bradley still has to come to us!
I don't know if it has to happen or if Bryan thinks it has to happen.Don’t have the horses to pull out 3 wins in the Tourney. It’s an improvement from last year, but Mullins needs help recruiting some athletes.
Marcus playing 117 of 120 minutes in 3 consecutive days is never going to work. And they pretty much have to do it to have any shot.

The problem is there haven’t been enough secondary scorers developed on this roster so when Domask is out, it’s often tough sledding. But I agree, if you’re trying to win the whole tournament, he can’t play 38-40 min per game.
You can tell the fans who don't stick stuff out... Can't handle being first and a little 2 game losing streak... I sat through a full season of 2 wins lol... We have been down bad so long, we have 7 games to compete for a championship, if you can't enjoy this stretch run I don't know what to say. Stay home and watch the pro bowl games Sunday, I guess.
It should be pretty obvious. Only one is a senior. A previous poster talked about fw not even sniffing the floor at this time in his college career being a problem. I call it a big recruiting miss. That being said, he is not alone in that respect.

Exactly my thoughts. I couldn’t have said it any better. Not let’s go pack the Banterra Center and go win a ship.
That two-game road swing wasn’t very much fun.

The other day I watched the 2002 NCAA tourney game against Georgia. Eddie Fogler (the color commentator) on at least two occasions gave high praise to Weber for having developed a deep bench. He went on to say that the only way to develop a bench is by PLAYING GUYS even if it means sacrificing a couple of wins in the process.
So true. And I think it's especially true in a one-bid league, where all that is going to matter, really, is the MVC tournament. (Yes, yes, I am well aware that we're trying to earn a top 4 finish.)
(Inflammatory political snark)
So, so true. For teams that have realistic post season aspirations, developing that depth is so vital. For example, look at what a RS freshman Darren Brooks did for that 2002 squad in March.
So often in the NCAAt, especially for lower seeded teams, its the unexpected "heroes" who step up in a big way for them to actually advance when things don't go as planned.
Another more recent example; Clarence Rupert, who wasn't even starting on a not very good St Peters team at the beginning of last year only to come on and do what he did to help them make their tourney run.
You can play your depth and do it in a way that doesn't disrupt rhythm and flow. Less scripted sub patterns and more trust in the younger guys could go a long way.
--Insert something witty here--
yeah i thought we would be the deepest team wearing everyone out with intense defense. the alarming thought i have at the moment is i dont feel like the team has really improved. bradley did not even play that well last night, missed a lot of open shots. siu missed a lot of open shots but they were from like 400 feet away so who wouldnt be open. honestly the team could probably just run a flex motion offense and put up more than 52 points in comparison to the john wayne approach. as others have mentioned the home stretch should help, sure hope it does
I prefer to restrain myself from commenting/posting directly after a Saluki game, as I am well aware of my emotions.
Disappointing losses on this latest road trip. Was in CEFCU Arena for the defeat to our in state rival Redbirds. Those fellows shot lights out from three (0ver 70%) and from the charity stripe (Over 90%). Extremely difficult to defeat your opponent when they are unconscious on offense. Tied it at 66 after being down 12 early in the half, and let it get away from us in the end. Kudos to Ryan Pedon and Illinois State. They are improving and playing with confidence each game.
Like many folks here posted, I had a bad vibe heading into the BU game. Similar to UNI, Carver Arena and Peoria is yet another location we historically do not play well in. We had numerous opportunities to establish the lead and extend, but did not. Turnovers were a big part of the defeat last night, perhaps due to BU defense. Rebounding has been the Achilles heal all year, and again last night. Our offense was not fluent, as I noticed many individuals standing and waiting for something positive to occur. I felt we were going to see Scottie play a role last night but of course did not. Is he not in game shape, late to practice, or not working as hard in practice as he should? Very perplexing. I do believe that Coach Mullins stresses defense. From my observation the team looked fatigued, especially at games end. Would enjoy seeing us apply full court, or even 3/4 court pressure on opposing teams, but we just don't seem to have that energy, especially late. The MVC did not provide SIU any favors with the schedule this year, as these last two games certainly proved. Still believe!
GO DAWGS!!!
