Hopefully SLU coaches are fooled by this tape and they tailor their gameplan around taking away Xavier Johnson's 3-point looks. 😀

Xavier's 4-4 shooting 3s was only one made basket shy of the school record (5-5) for best 3-pt percentage in a game, shared by 6 former Salukis.

I went to the game last night. About 3/4 of the way through the first half I said to myself, my God this team plays defense. The personnel match between SIU and Evansville is not even close. Cade looked like a freshman, and to a certain degree, so did Foster. Marcus was just as valuable making pinpoint passes out of double teams as he is scoring 32 points. Clarence could be the X factor this year. Trent was very focused and confident. Mullins knows this team and he knows what he is doing, I trust his judgement. We can beat SLU. GO DAWGS!

The advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty.

I agree on Cade last night. It was the first time he came into a game and looked raw. Mullins yanked him and Foster almost immediately after putting them in at one point in the second half as there was a clear drop off in intensity (during the Aces 12 point run).

Pretty dominate performance all around. Awesome to win by this much with Domask only scoring 5 points! See so many posts just talking about how bad Evansville is and very few giving credit to our defense (I know both can be true). Just feels like anytime we have a good showing it's always team X is so bad, not we made team X look so bad, so hesitant to give our guys credit when they have a good game, but we are sure quick to put it on them when they play poorly.

Was nice to see our guys can indeed hit shots from outside, but still don't want them to fall in love with the 3 ball. Lots of good stuff from out guards attacking the basket and finishing or kicking out. Still a bit too many turnovers for my liking, but I think that aggressiveness lead to a lot of the open outside shots. Hopefully we can improve our decision making in that area a bit more. We're not going to shoot like that every night, but those guys getting some confidence can go a long way, especially given our next two games are going to require us to score some points if we want to win, even if we play solid defense.

Didn't realize SIU didn't make one free throw last night:

Lance, Rupert, Domask, etc. all played great...and we shot 60% including four 3s from XJ. Fun to watch, but let's be honest.

Evansville won 6 games total last year (and one was over a D3 team), two in the MVC, and they're almost certainly worse this year. Still wondering how they beat Miami O.

But it's good to pound the teams you should pound. Probably the easiest conference game we'll have this year other than UE at SIU.

The Jerry Sloan days are long gone. They should have kept Marty Simmons..he at least got some talent in there.

I think the timing of the game benefited SIU too.  I think Evansville will be a different team in February/March than they were November 30th.  Still not a very good team either way though.

Doesn't take anything away from SIU though, they did their job and beat them down.

I'm not saying anoint them the champions, but give credit where credit is due that's all. Let's not explain away a good result by saying it's entirely the result of a team being bad. Let's not forget we lost to USI not too long ago and some posters were tearing in to players and ready to mail in the season (criticism of that performance was warranted btw).

There is no way this Evansville team is worse than last year, but I certainly don't expect them to win many games. They are going to have days (like Miami of Ohio) where they play well enough to beat some teams at the bottom because there are a hand full of players that can score.

I think SIU deserves a lot of credit for beating Evansville in the fashion they did but people will rightfully be skeptical until they prove they can beat the top teams in the Valley, something they didn't do last year and haven't really been able to do the last decade plus.  The game next week at home against Indiana State will be a big one.  The Trees look very dangerous.

Time will tell, but I think they are much worse than last year.

They had one really good player last year - Givance. He's gone. Frederking is gone. 6' 8" Blake Sisley, who made the MVC all-freshman team, is gone to Wright State.

Ragland has his work cut out for him. They might win more than two MVC games only because the MVC is much weaker this year.

If you're going to argue Evansville should have kept Simmons even longer you should also argue SIU should have given Hin--- another five years. Both were around a long time and never made meaningful postseason play (NCAA or NIT).

Letting Simmons go was the right move. The McCarty/Lickliter fiascos were the problem. I think Ragland has a chance to dig them out of the abyss.

By the way, Simmons' second EIU squad is 1-7 after a 20-point home loss to Northern Illinois last night.

Evansville beat Miami of OHIO on the road and Robert Morris at a neutral site. Evansville had a 4 point lead at SLU with 10 minutes to go in the game. Evansville has some quality transfers who are tall and long. I would argue Strawbridge is as good or better than Givance. We are the only team to come close to shutting him down this year. I think Evansville is probably better than their 5-24 team of last year. Last nights game was also only their 2nd home game this year. They lost a close game at home to SEMO earlier in the year. We beat them by 27 which is by far the largest margin they have lost by this year. They are not good, but SIU deserves a ton of credit for playing really well and beating an MVC team on the road.
