@austinsaluki Most of the time we shoot an outside shot all 5 SIU players are headed down court without even a mediocre attempt to rebound. Are they teaching this now?
Yes, so I've heard. Gad, I hope not!

I thought the defense on Givance was fine for the most part. Could have done better limiting him getting to the basket but he was just unconscious even on good defense in the 2nd half. Seriously thought his 3/4 court shot was going to go in at the end of the game.
@salukiworld The only problem that I have with our defense was the constant switching of the big man at the 3 point line. It caused mismatch problems for the guard on the Acers big man and our big man on the Acer guard, mostly Givance.

Yeah I noticed this too. They would end up with someone like D'Amico on Givance or Newton. Thought Evansville missed chances to just attack some of the switches, especially a Freshman D'Amico (granted Troy played well). Think Givance was gassed at the end because he should have been taking every single shot down the stretch.
I have read a few criticisms on Banks' performance last night. A couple thoughts on that. First I wonder how well he could see when shooting with that mask on. I thought he showed a lot of toughness and energy for playing extended minutes with such a substantial injury. Second, Givance was unconscious last night and Banks nor anyone else could stop him. However some of Givance's buckets were scored after Evansville screens gave them a switch off with one of our bigs trying to guard the super quick Evansville guard, no chance. Lance would have been a better match up but on the whole I thought Banks did a credible job staying in front of Givance and obviously did a better job than any healthy player we had available for the task.
I agree he played well - lots of energy and great effort. He Is offensively challenged though - couldn't shoot much before the mask.

No way. No help on his drives to the basket - he got a ton of layups. Not much you can do about the unconscious outside shots from 3 pt land. We could have played him better.
Jones is the only guy on our team that has the quickness to play him tougher, but he was having a night and was going to score some points no matter who was guarding him.
@austinsaluki This is one of the subtle changes that has developed over time in college basketball. Teams place more importance in defensive transition, especially to defend the 3, than in offensive rebounding. As more teams, like SIU, employ 4 and/or 5 offensive players on the perimeter fewer players are inside when the ball is shot. I view this as change, but not improvement.
Another change is that many teams do not help versus penetration when they are guarding a man in the corner. How many times did Givence drive to the basket last night while we had a defender sticking to a man in the corner? Switching Banks off Givence and not helping off the corner man made it easier for Givence. I wonder if we will see adjustments next time versus the Aces?
Kenpom is a jackovv. One of the best things about college basketball is that it ISN'T the nba. Jackovv's like him don't appreciate good defense. A 24 second clock would ruin college basketball. Just like they're trying to ruin March madness by proposing a separation of the bcs conference teams from mid and low major teams in post season tourney's, including the ncaa tournament.
It has to be said that when you're shooting at a 50 percent clip, there are fewer opportunities for offensive rebounds.

Maybe then the Big Teh14 could advance more than 1 of 9 teams to the second weekend! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
