We got a win, on the road, without Jones.  We are inconsistent that's for sure.  Marcus is getting back his comfort level which is really big. D'Amico is getting good minutes and looking like he is settling in which will pay dividends going forward when hopefully we get Brown back and Jones is hopefully not out long as far as depth goes.  Hard at this point to get a real feel for where we are headed.  I see moments when there is cohesiveness coming together but still a real work in progress.  Hoping we really take advantage of the rest of the non-con games to develop so we are ready for the season to begin.  We still have work to do.

If Lance Jones and Givance are 3rd team pre-season guards, I will be very interested to see  how both of them end up at the end of the year. Yeah, Givance gave us a taste of what other teams feel when having to play against LJ.

@mr_woogers Let's don't forget that Domask has missed the rim on 3-5 shots from within 4 feet tonight also. There's got to be a happy medium where he doesn't put himself in a situation to shoot an off balanced fade away that he can't even put on the rim.

@austinsaluki Most of the time we shoot an outside shot all 5 SIU players are headed down court without even a mediocre attempt to rebound.  Are they teaching this now?

So what's the deal with Filewich and D'Avanzo?  Are they really playing that badly?  I missed the first half, but 2 and 7 minutes for them?????

Thanks for any insight!

It's even more puzzling when you factor in that Muila has been very mediocre since he became a starter.

The team plays much better with Muila and Coupet on the floor, and that's why those two have seen such a huge minutes increase. It's not about Muila putting up 10 and 7 every night, it's just that his presence in the floor gives us a dynamic that has us playing our best. Filewich has looked lost this year, so hopefully he figures it out. It's just concerning how unathletic he's appeared compared to moments of last year. Looking forward to seeing him in another 1-2 years like we used to have with redshirts. Which he was the prototype for.

Hey, let’s all do something.

A big favor.

From me:

LET’S NEVER TALK OF THIS GAME AGAIN

Or the game before this one.  😀

Feel like this was much different than the Alcorn State "win".  If you would have told me SIU would go on the road and beat Evansville without Jones, Harvey, and Brown; I would have taken it.  Winning on the road in the Valley is tough and they're 1-0.  Not gonna say this game gives me much confidence going forward but I'm happy with this win.

Just got home from the game a while ago.  Not much to say that hasn't already been said.  We looked great the first half (13-0 lead out of the gate)??  But we had no answer for #5 (Givance) the second half.  He was unstoppable.  Nice win on the road (thanks to Domask) and nice comeback by Evansville.  But what a bitter pill it would've been to lose this game.

Just scanned the box score. Probably not going to win many games when three of your starters COMBINE for eight points, as was the case yesterday with Verplancken, Banks and Muila. Would have also liked to see a more decisive rebounding edge against probably the least athletic frontcourt in the Valley.

Thank goodness for the great early defense and Marcus rising up late.

Here's hoping Jones' injury doesn't linger because it won't be easy to cobble many more wins together with that lineup and short rotation from last night.

I know Heff gets a lot of hate, but interesting interview with Reis before the game last night. Particularly his call out of the athletic department’s handling of things as of late (a position I agree with).

I think Filewich is having confidence problems, but I believe he will come out of it to produce good minutes down the road.

heff doesn't get a pass just because he grew a pair on his last day. he is supposed to be shinning the light on things that aren't right. i don't hate the guy. he did the best he could. he just consistently came up way short. i'd still have a beer with him and wish him the best. i hope they hire a hungry guy that's tireless at beating this site's insiders to the story (no disrespect to our great insiders!)

Our athletic dept is more secretive than the Federal Gov't - very disturbing.

Mike Krzyzewski's first three years at Duke:

17-13

10-17

10-17

Shashevski should have quit years ago. Duke just got upset by the guy that beat Lance Jones in the IHSA big school state championship game! 😀

I have read a few criticisms on Banks' performance last night.  A couple thoughts on that.  First I wonder how well he could see when shooting with that mask on. I thought he showed a lot of toughness and energy for playing extended minutes with such a substantial injury.  Second, Givance was unconscious last night and Banks nor anyone else could stop him.  However some of Givance's buckets were scored after Evansville screens gave them a switch off with one of our bigs trying to guard the super quick Evansville guard, no chance.  Lance would have been a better match up but on the whole I thought Banks did a credible job staying in front of Givance and obviously did a better job than any healthy player we had available for the task.
