Big letdown game. ISU shot out of their mind today and only missed 1 free throw. That’s going to lead to quite a few losses. We just have to find a way to win these games…not getting stops down the stretch was tough. All that without their leading scorer.
Credit to the Redbirds, they showed up today ready to play.
Figured SIU needed one win on this Central Illinois trip. Guess it's gotta be in Peoria now.
I was thinking it was gonna be a 1-1 road swing with ISU and Bradley... but it'll have to be done the hard way now, as the Braves are 10-1 at home, with their only loss by 2 to Belmont.
@goroshnik to be fair, Bradley doesn’t look good recently. I know we won’t be favored going in, but we definitely have a chance. Hopefully our team refocuses with this loss and goes and beats them.

@ Bradley will likely be our toughest MVC game of the year. Expect to see Bradley favored by 6.5 or so.
Well two turnovers at crunch time will usually bring a loss.
15-16????
I guess Southern didn't practice hard enough this week on FT defense...
Yeah, we weren't making mean enough faces at the shooter today. Better luck next game. lol15-16????

And not to make it worse, but they were 17-18.

Marcus Domask postgame:
Southern isn’t set up to win too often when other teams play well offensively. Fortunately that doesn’t happen too often, but it did today. Hard for SIU to win shootout-style games being so reliant on two scorers (what a game by Marcus, though). I thought the start of the second half was especially costly. Also disappointing to be outrebounded by ISU, which is weak at the 5.
Considering ISU was shorthanded and with Bradley in Peoria looming, this was quite the toe stub.
Just watched the replay. What a heartbreaker. FT defense not there today. We outhustled them all day, didn't turn it over a lot but got beat by a team that had the 3 ball going. Great to see Domask have such a great game. At least Belmont lost, but what an opportunity to be alone in first. February is gonna be interesting to say the least.
Juts got home from the game. I was really impressed with the presence of SIU fans at the game and NOT just the Dawg pound. We were often considerably louder than their home fans. SIU didn't play their best but ISU shot lights out. It seemed they couldn't miss. Even not playing their best, we still could have won this one. A VERY tough loss, especially considering it would be a major shock to beat Bradley. Now we have to genuinely worry about playing on Thursday. Assuming losses to Bradley and Drake on the road. I also think SIU will lose to at least one, if not both, home games vs Bradley and Northern Iowa. Of course SIU could win ALL of these games, but that is highly unlikely. These are the games that I circled as being incredibly tough ones.
Very embarrassing, and I speak of our FT shooting. We have 4 big men and only one of the 4 can shoot decent FTs and he does not play. The other three are horrible and that is inexcusable. Do we have a coach to work on FTs? I mean change their technique - they cannot be any worse. Those 3 need a “midnight practice” to improve their FTs. Any D1 player should be able to make 6 out of 10 with practice, practice, practice………. If they cannot demonstrate that consistently in practice, they should never be on the court in a game.

Easy to say from your living room… It isn’t that simple. Frustrating how today went, but that’s just ridiculous.
