Our two best players (by far) out, this is about what I would expect. Still haven’t kept a conference game within single digits.

Disappointed to hear there were issues with KD…I was already preparing for his departure, feels like his fate is pretty much sealed at this point. I just don’t see how next year is going to be any different. I guess they’ll make sure they have a few shooters on the team this next time around. Feels like a big roster rebuild is on the horizon for a coach who doesn’t like doing it via the portal.

Leonard and Nagy are tied at the hip, so he’s not going anywhere anytime soon, unless Leonard gets canned or Nagy retires.

even if Leonard gets canned the University cannot afford to fire Nagy.  It is his job for the next 5 1/2 years unless he retires.  Go Nagy!  Go Dawgs!

As beautiful as our campus is and as great a place as Banterra is to watch a game, Carbondale is just not the place where major talent looks to go. The success of past teams was predicated on great coaches (Webber, Painter) who managed to lure top players to the program, not to the university. We were fortunate to have those men grace the hardwood of Banterra. I think it is time to slash the budget of athletics and offer the programs while acknowledging that they will never generate the kind of interest we enjoyed before the transfer portal and NIL. The core mission of education needs to be priority if SIU is to stay relevant.

May I ask what programs you are referring to? I regret to inform you that education is NOT, and has not been the mission and or priority for the majority of college academia across America for quite some time. College athletics is the driving force for most universities/colleges. While I hear what you are saying, I will ask you this. Would for example 8,000 fans show up at Banterra Arena to watch 30 students take a final exam, discuss a power point, or battle through a intense chess match? The Dawg Pound would be out of control.

@siu_2011 A head coach at times must make difficult decisions. A hard message was sent to KD. We probably lose by 21 with him instead of 31. I guess we'll all see if the intention was justified on Wednesday night in Nashville. I hope KD stays and wants to be a Saluki. Players want to win, and we are certainly not doing that. I'm sure that there is someone, perhaps a couple of Nagy staff members, who are scouting players across the U.S. with portal possibility at season's end. 3 ball, and free throw shooter openings available, please send resume, and apply via Linkedin.

GO DAWGS!!!

Our NET is now 284, just behind the 4-11 colgate raiders.  I do not remember us ever being that low, although these things did not exist for Van Winkle or Gottfried. To get to #300, we have to equal the current holder, Georgia State.  They have given up over 100 three times.  Their fans are probably not to happy either.

Searching for any nugget of good news or humor, I was remembering that just a few short weeks ago we were all talking about how few minutes there were to go around and who would get them. Now it's pretty much, "who wants to play today"?

March on triumphantly!

As noted several times above, short of retirement, Nagy is not going anywhere. Tim Leonard on the other hand, should definitely be on the hotseat and very nervous.

March on triumphantly!

Nagy isn’t going anywhere for sometime, unless he decides, no doubt…Leonard is likely safe for a couple years too, although I don’t know how many years he has left on his contract. Typical 5 year contract would have him up in ‘27…so probably safe for at least a couple years.

I will say, if Nagy is still struggling in a couple years, I think Leonard will be hard pressed to find an extension. Who knows if Lane will still be around by then…he seems to be looking for an off ramp.

I don't know Tim Leonard personally but to me he comes across as arrogant and checking his record at Towson the major sports that produce money weren't very successful apparently he raised money for certain areas but haven't seen that come to be here he has ideas on how to raise money publicly but does he reach out to alumni behind the scenes to try to get large donations or set up deals like the Banterra deal

it is hard to believe this guy was hired , with the comments he has made that would lead one to believe he doesn’t embrace the portal.

While I liked the Nagy hire at the time and am still reserving judgment until we see what the future holds, I do think this is an area in which he and his staff probably will have to adapt and adjust. It's like being a capable, reliable veteran employee who suddenly is asked to learn new technology or whatever. You either adapt to and embrace the new order or you are rendered irrelevant, incompetent and immaterial.

Tim Leonard has raised quite a bit of money including for the NIL. He is working on raising a lot more especially when it comes to major donors. It's a very tough task at Southern and he is doing a pretty good job so far in that area.

@tj-mcflys Without a university there are no athletic programs. Our athletics bleed money big time. You get 8,000 at a game once a year if that. We haven't come close this year. And if that isn't bad enough, thanks to the state of Illinois, the university is bleeding money. It comes down to priorities.

@tj-mcflys Without a university, there are no athletic programs. Our athletic department bleeds money big time at a university where thanks to the state of Illinois, the school is losing money. Once in a blue moon we get 8,000 to a basketball game and we won't come close this year. It comes down to priorities and we've seen better programs in and out of the university run on far less money in regards to men's and women's basketball. It comes down to priorities.
