Marcus Domask radio interview with Mike Reis:
We are blessed, as fans, to have Marcus as one of the faces of this program. Mullins wasn't kidding when he said that a player's character is as, or more, important than their skill. You see that in Marcus, Lance, Brown, etc. On a side note, I'm old fashioned so I love to hear him call Reis "sir", I feel like you don't find those kind of manners as much anymore.
Yup. First you build the culture.
this is the most overused cliche used in sports and it's largely crap.
here is a fine example. petrino hasnt build any culture in Springfield, yet he has destroyed us twice in about 8 months. that guy dwells in the sewer and wears an MVFC championship ring after about five minutes on the job at a doormat. meanwhile some of our guys just left saluki stadium after the game.
i would take hill and mullins 1,000 times out of 999 opportunities over someone like petrino. our previous two basketball coaches built "culture". it didn't amount to a thing and it landed both of them jobs in the big 12. the culture at kansas is to cheat so much that fbi gets involved, but it works for them.
ill get off my soap box but I just hate that term. it's just marketing crap. when porter flops at oklahoma will it be because he forgot to bring his patented culture with him? no. it will be because he is the same lousy coach his was at isu and at loyola until he hired mullins.
I think there's a huge difference between FCS Football and Missouri Valley Basketball. It's pretty clear Mullins is building a culture at SIU based on the number of defections they had last offseason. Guys want to be in Carbondale and play for Mullins and they've been killing it academically. Now it's time to see if they can get it done on the court.

No one has a patent on the word and it’s meaning to the user of the word. In the case of Bryan Mullins it can be boiled down to two words: “good kid”. I neither know nor care what it means to others who choose to use it. Don’t burn the house down because you don’t like the color the last person painted it.

loyola doesn't play FCS football, nor does oklahoma, nor does kansas. the "culture" there is criminal. i stand by my rant.
who the hell suggested burning down the house. get a grip. what does that even mean?
porter is a one pony gimmic.
Craving a McBride Special!
Hey, we all have bad days, I’d order you a McBride’s Special if I could, that was my favorite also! Go Dawgs.

If you start ripping sports cliches, sportswriting and most sports announcing will be completely silenced!!! LOL.
The silence would be deafening without "build the culture", "one game at a time", "ready to play", and "getting that monkey off [his/her/the team's/the coach's] back.
I got to run because I need to get my game face on for UALR, because it's gut check time. I hope we don't dig ourselves a hole we can't get out of, because a wins a win whether this game is a must-win or not! We've got to leave it all on the table in the face of adversity and show mental toughness. And even if we lose, I know our team is resilient.
And don't forget, it is what it is!

how du u realy feel about it?
Let's get this thread back on track.................
First real game of the season is tomorrow. I have the Dawgs winning 72-61.
Vegas line is 7. No love for the Dawgs.

7 points on the road is pretty favorable, usually home court is worth about 3 points. Vegas is as good as anyone in making sure their lines are perfect but I imagine there's an adjustment period at the beginning of the season with new players and injuries. Vegas took weeks to adjust to Drake last year.
SIU Game Notes:
Little Rock Game Notes:
Hoping to see some offensive identity for the Dawgs, which I believe is what they lacked last year.
The offense needs to run through Jones & Domask, with everyone else playing focused roles.
Even with depth, Mullins needs not allow 5-6 different guys go out and try to be a hero any given night.
Go with the hot hand at any given moment, but play smart and play with a plan.
Salukis win 60-53.
Bryan Mullins press conference from today:
Coupet and Brown both practiced Friday and should practice today, sounds like they're good to go.
I am not going to be surprised if Ebube redshirts.

Excited for this game. Ready to see these guys in action in a game that counts. Hoping to see a solid defensive performance, I feel like we have the scorers on offense. If we aren't better than last year on defense, I don't think we take much of a step up this year.
