At the 14:42 mark of the 2nd half Mullins put in the small lineup and the boys got it to 4 down until the 9:02 mark and D'Avanzo came in. D'Avanzo held his own but no points. At the 5:15 they went small again and got close. We put in a big after that the wheels came off. They played better in the 2nd half w/ the help of the smaller lineup. Better to just go small? What do we have to lose at this point?
Coupet POG 14 pts 5 Rbs
Jones 9 pts 3 RBs 2stls only 1 TO 27% shooting (1-6 threes)
Domask 6 pts 13 RBs 3 assists 4 TOs 25% shooting
We shot 33% - poor! Jones shot poorly from three tonight. Not his best game. Domask only took 8 shots - not enough.
Between the late season collapse from the football team and the disappointment from basketball this has been a depressing few months
Coming into the game, SIU ranked 311th out of 358 D-1 teams with 63.6 PPG. Tonight's effort will push that ranking down even further.
On the flip side, only giving up 61.6 PPG puts them in the top 20 of the nation, so if there's been ANY silver lining to this season, it's that this team can play some defense. But it HAS to, as it's not gonna light up the scoreboard any time soon.
I figured out Saluki offense. It is called "Rope a Dope" per Muhammad ALi.
It worked great for Ali, but not so much for SIU.

Your top two scorers and the only two proven to be consistently capable at it struggle mightily against a good defensive team?
Hmm, this smells of bad offense.
And nobody give me the coaches being familiar with one another bs. Did Loyola’s big guns struggle?
🤔

Didn’t realize Thursday was on all the channels once again.
Effort on rebounding was a lot better, but our offensive scheme SUUUUUUCCCKKS!!!!!
Listening to Ben Coupet, in front of his family in Chicago on his birthday, I can’t help but feel bad for the guy.
He’s had an up and down season. We need more from him.
I hate that his only year as a Saluki might turn out the way it’s looking for this team. I want guys like that to have a great experience.
Listening to Reis and Watson struggle with what to ask of the player and coach is difficult too.
What is to be said at this point?
And the fact that these games are somewhat close for a while, or even late, doesn’t mean this team is close.
I could see anywhere from 7-11 to 9-9 this season in MVC. Getting to even 10-8 would be very tough for this group with their underwhelming offense.
Hope I’m wrong. But the season only has a little over a month left.

I just made that remark to keep Bobber away! He seemed to have some prurient interest at one point.
that was not an intentional foul
Sure it was. Coupet took him down with both hands. But I'm OK with it, since the guy was being a douche and trying to dunk on us with the game already decided.

you are correct on both. good for Coupet!
