A Division I HBCU.  This should be fun.  I like the pickup.

I don’t

They are really really bad. At least Mo Bap was not going to hurt us

Yeah, they suck.  Better than playing a D2 though.  Again.

Will be a good tune up before two very tough MVC games starting Sunday.

Better than an NAIA team

No it’s really not. A D-2 can not hurt you

Our Net rating is meaningless this year. We are not getting an at large to the ncaa or nit tournaments. Better to play a bad D1 than an NAIA team when your Net rating is meaningless.

I have no idea where you’re getting this “hurt you” thing.

SIU isn’t getting any bids.  I welcome the competition.  And Grambling has played UConn, TCU, Texas Tech etc.

I'm just glad we're playing. My life is boring enough as it is. You know it is bad when your wife wants to watch re-runs of America's Funniest Videos on YouTube.

SIU is not in good shape if we’re worrying about Grambling State hurting us.  This is much better than a pointless NAIA game.  Props to the staff for getting this done on short notice.

Good.

Playing non D1 schools in the regular season should make teams ineligible for the NCAA tournament.

Only exception would be Chaminade in the Hawaiian tournament.

If you're going to do it, I'd rather have it be the first game of the year.  The only point of playing these at the end of non-conference season would be getting guys like Wonders and Ebube some minutes...and they can't even play.

In Southern’s case, getting Brown some minutes before conference play would have a bit of upside as well. Don’t know if that’s going to happen, but he’s already missed about as many games as Domask did last year.

SIU is one game light on the schedule and can still play Mo Baptist at a later date

@spike look at a majority of D1 schedules and you will notice playing lesser schools is very commonplace these days

Doesn't mean it should be. And it is not common at all above a certain level.

The Atantic 10 collectively had 3 non-D1 games. Or SIU scheduled almost as many as the A10 did as conference.

The American Athletic collectively had 1 non-D1 team on the schedule.

PAC 12 had zero. SEC 2.

I am not saying it doesn't happen. Just that it shouldn't. And the NCAA should say play non D1 schools if you want but you forfeit your opportunity to play in any postseason tournaments.
