@spike That's a little extreme, isn't it? Maybe only allow them to serve as exhibition games.
I have no issue with them as Exhibition games. But no non-D1 schools should be allowed on the regular season schedule.
It's what's funny about people, when talking about conference expansion, saying it will be easier to schedule.
I hate to tell them but all it will do is lead to fewer non-D1 games in non conference. Coaches aren't going to get rid of the non-D1 games
I actually like that thought; non-D1 games as exhibition only unless the non-D1 school is the host of an early season tourney and is thus included in the bracket. Cross division match-ups should not be allowed once D1 regular season play has begun.
--Insert something witty here--
I would only make an exception for Chaminade in Hawaii as they were grandfathered in.
Otherwise schools would just schedule non-D1 schools as their campus site game(as SIU has done multiple times).

There are a couple main reasons mid-majors are having to schedule non D1 regular season games. Power conferences have expanded their conference schedule and are playing more conference games. This leaves less non conference games on their schedule. Also, mid majors want a minimum amount of home games for revenue from ticket sales. They have a very hard time filling them with other D1 teams, so find it necessary to schedule non D1 to fill their home schedule. One of the main reasons mid major conferences are expanding their conferences is to also play more conference games. If the mvc expands to 12 teams expect the conference schedule to increase to 20 games.
Again, that is a cop-out. Illinois State had two non-D1 games in their OOC schedule. They had 6 other home games on top of it.
Missouri State had 6 home games and still scheduled a non-D1.
It is the same thing we as SIU fans used to get pissed at. When BCS schools wouldn't schedule good mid majors. Except now good mid majors refuse to play eachother in home/home series.
Mullins said they're looking to re-schedule Missouri Baptist sometime in late January. Is this because we're paying them? I don't get the need to actually play this game in the middle of conference season unless games get canceled.

Trust in Bryan's strategy even though it might not be apparent right now.

They discussed it in the Mike Reis interview and it sounds like there's a possibility it can be placed in if an opposing Valley team is on COVID pause and leaves SIU with an open date instead of sitting around for a week without a game.
@salukiworld Very impressed that SIU can get another SWAC team on our schedule at such a late notice, not every program strives for such a competitive schedule.
@mdogs1 with the turmoil of the last 18 months I don't see how you can continue to complain about a schedule. With no fans last season at games this surely hurt the budget and I am sure all schools in SIU's class are currently having budget issues also. With a serious lack of funding I am sure most schools are having the same issues. I do believe the schedule will correct itself in the near future as funding hopefully returns and revenues return. In the meantime I really hate to say this if you can do better maybe you should offer your services to the athletic department because I wouldn't try to make schedules in this environment

Last year didn't help SIU in scheduling too. Finished 9th in the Valley and 12-14 overall. Tough to get even good mid-majors until you can consistently show you can win games and not kill their Tournament resume. Teams like Northern Iowa and Missouri State were able get some good games. Neither took advantage much at all but I think it's gonna be beneficial when playing the weak Valley.
I think SIU's schedule was a little tougher than we anticipated in the preseason, mainly due to San Francisco being one of the top mid-majors.
