EE will be back hopefully. Davis, Aligbe, Webber, some good pieces. Steffe was a 4 star recruit? His shooting is worse than Kendall Brown Surles.
No....it's not. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
@siudawgs how can you be ok with this is don't care if it is the first year or not this season so far is unacceptable and no excuse is acceptable
I’m not really OK with it based on how it looks (caving in so many games and showing insufficient fight). And I’m not OK if it continues to spiral toward 11th or 12th place, especially if there is not meaningful progress from younger players like Aligbe, Sharp and Steffe.
What I meant is I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect MVC contention in his first season. Would that have been nice? Of course. I’m OK with giving Nagy a few years like any new coach gets a few years, but of course you don’t want it to look this ugly. And as I said, more than this season, I’m worried about the potential impact on recruiting.
This coaching staff hasn’t put together a roster they can do much with. I still don’t understand much of Nagy’s defensive philosophy, but it sure gives up a lot of points (or points per possession if you prefer to look at it from that lense). Maybe he doesn’t have the right guys to implement, maybe he’s not getting things across clearly (inexcusable this late in the season), or are guys just not listening (worst of the three options).
I’ve not seen such a large percentage of a team play with so little confidence. Steffe in particular looks like he was playing on a knife’s edge. He looked much more comfortable towards the end of the game, knocked down some tough shots. Hopefully that builds his confidence up, we need him to knock down some shots. Keep in mind he’s still just a freshmen.
We may not be able to play defense, shoot, handle the ball, pass, or win games. But at least we have athletes! That’s what everyone wanted.

It looked to me like Southern’s athleticism bothered UNI somewhat in the first 10 minutes. And I’ve seen that in a few other games, too. But this team can’t sustain intensity or sharpness for anything close to 40 minutes. Sooo …
Nagy put together this roster in a hurry and it's always somewhat a of a guess how guys turn out. I think this group doesn't have enough guys that really hate losing and will work their butts off on D and that are mentally tough. Having a real team leader that's like that is invaluable, and I don't think we have one with EE out for the season.
Also not crazy about the D coaching and adjustments that are going on. However, being a great D player is also a talent. You can be mean and hard working but slow as a centipede with broken legs. I don't see much D talent in this group - no Tony Youngs or Falkers or Brian Mullins types.
Still think/hope we can win MVC games. Road games may be tough though. I think we beat Evansville to start the New Year off right.
Nagy's comment "we have to have guys that want to win" says it all I think. He also said not many teams will come in there and win - I agree with that. UNI's pretty tough at home.
Not pleased at all with this team, but like someone mentioned, you have to give Nagy some time. How much is the question?
While I'm whining (and drinking), Saluki post players almost always put the ball on the floor whenever they get the ball down low. And nearly every time, it does not end well. Seems like Nagy and company would try to coach that out the post players? Take the rock up, no need to dribble. Just another one of my quibbles to go along with the free throws, layups, turnovers...Hensley did play well today and kudos to him.
March on triumphantly!
Nagy's comment "we have to have guys that want to win."
I would like to believe you figure that out before you pass out scholarships.
This whole thing is baffling.
Indiana State lost a full roster and competed at Ohio State for 30 minutes.
Teams all over the country lost rosters and found replacements with new coaches.
This team seems overwhelmingly gutless and heartless.
SIU fans will accept a team that loses. Teams have lost before. Fans will NOT accept laziness. This team plays lazy. And their coach reflects that.
Bow Em
A majority of the people on this site wanted a change from Mullins because in today's climate it shouldn't take years to rebuild but now we are willing to give the new staff a leash for years to rebuild that is unacceptable considering other teams in the Valley who have replaced coaches are competitive and they had the same time frames and situations the Nagy faced the time for excuses is over

Mullins had 5 years and the best they did was 1 Saturday appearance in St. Louis. If Nagy goes 5 years with 1 Saturday appearance, people will want him fired too.

I don’t really get the point here. No one is happy with how this season looks. It sucks. Not a good first impression from the new staff.
But are you wanting to tar and feather him, or fire him, after one season (that included a major injury)?
What’s your bottom line?
