I think most are disappointed because we were informed that the team had length and was athletic with a new coach to assemble this talent. So far that has not been the case. I'm beginning to like not having the names on the back of the uniforms so I don't know who is slacking.

A majority of the people on this site wanted a change from Mullins because in today's climate it shouldn't take years to rebuild but now we are willing to give the new staff a leash for years to rebuild that is unacceptable considering other teams in the Valley who have replaced coaches are competitive and they had the same time frames and situations the Nagy faced the time for excuses is over

Give me a break. This coaching staff is 13 games into their tenure and have, essentially, an entirely new roster.

I don’t really get the point here. No one is happy with how this season looks. It sucks. Not a good first impression from the new staff.

But are you wanting to tar and feather him, or fire him, after one season (that included a major injury)?

What’s your bottom line?

Here's the bottom line that counts at this point: I've brought it up a few times already and apologize for repeating myself, but Nagy has more than 5.5 years left on a contract that pays $600K per season. Unless there's a financial angel or two among SIU's boosters (and maybe regular posters who are closer to the situation can tell us if that's the case), Nagy will be here after this season, next season, and the season after that -- if he wants to be. You're probably looking at the end of Year 4 before there is a realistic possibility of a change. And even if that wasn't the case, he certainly deserves more than one season to show what he can do. Even the guy who arguably was the worst coach in SIU basketball history got three seasons, despite it being apparent halfway through his first season that he already was in deep trouble (he was paid only $35K a year in that much less expensive era, by the way, and a buyout would have been much more affordable).

All that being said, I'm going to root for him, like it or not -- just as I rooted for Mullins and even the Sauceman. I'm rooting for him to salvage something out of this season. I'm rooting for him to figure out what he has to do to turn this thing around next season, and then do it -- even if it means being ruthless and telling players who don't fit in to hit the road. And I'm rooting for a Schertz-style turnaround (from 20 losses to 23 wins) in Year 2.

This doesn't mean that we shouldn't second-guess or criticize him for the way this roster is put together, or for some of his strange strategy decisions (such as the aversion to timeouts), or for any number of other reasons. But best to wait a bit before trotting out the tar and feathers, or forming an angry mob to run him out of town.

Is this the Ohio State fan board that wants to fire Ryan Day 44 - 1 against Big 10 teams not named Michigan?  Crazy! I can't believe people are talking about firing a coach 13 games in - a guy with a good record of success.

The guy had 1 1/2 months to build a roster and a coaching staff - and no that's not enough time to know what you're really getting.

Davis hurt tonight? He only played 15 minutes. Eliott the former leading scorer didn't play at all. We lost by 11 at UNI. Yes we were getting whipped but we came back somewhat. And UNI was hot shooting 57%!

I watched a bit of Evansville and Mo State. Two really bad teams. Eville wins by 17 without their best player. We can beat both of these teams.

Redturds lose at home against a so so UIC team.

Fact is there are a lot of bad teams in the MVC this year. We're going to finish near the bottom and be much better next year, but we won't be 0 - 16.

Anybody who expected this game at UNI to be close with Davis being hurt or sick is tripping. Some of the best teams ever at SIU couldn't win there. (Painter's 17 - 1 MVC champs for instance)

I think Nagy's biggest fault is that he is not an SIU alum. Mullins got way more rope after 5 years of futility with several really good players.

My advice: take your valium and lower your expectations.

Nobody is calling for the guy to get fired. Stop inventing stuff.

People are just really underwhelmed. I knew it would be a struggle, but this is a legitimate contender for last place. I’ve watched every team in the Valley play, and I cannot sit here and say that we are clearly better than ONE team. Not even Evansville.

The Elliott injury was a killer. But even with that, I expected a team with a little bit of heart. They don’t show it. Ever. It’s a problem.

The guy isn’t going anywhere, and we gotta sit and watch this garbage for the rest of the year. Jokes on us. Hopefully next year we’ll actually get some D-1 caliber players, and finish above 10th.

Nagy's worst KenPom season since 2010 (5th year of South Dakota State's transition to D1) was #164 in his first year at Wright State, he made the Tournament the next year led by a Freshman (Loudon Love).  I'm frustrated with this team but give Nagy time to build this team the way he wants.

That was almost 10 years ago. And college basketball is a completely different animal now.

Definitely sounds like some of our players are not putting in the extra work they need to be.

@spike You say “college” basketball like it still exists.

Looking at the box score, I noticed Kenard only played 16 minutes.  Went FG 3-6, 3pt 1-4, scored 7 points with 3 fouls.
Something is up.  Steffe played 26, Sykes 21.
Reason I looked; I’m trying to understand the rotation.
Even if Moo is having an off night I’d expect him to be in more than Steffe & Sykes.
I miss something?

Believe he’s playing through an ankle injury. Guessing they decided it wasn’t worth it once they were buried in the second half. And he had some foul trouble in the first half.

Kennard needs to get healthy and play at a consistently high level for this team to have any chance to avoid a very low finish.
