Newman was 7 - 9 with 18 pts and Ousmane was 8 - 10 with 18. Newman made some very tough shots. We outrebounded them 36 - 33.
Have to say I was impressed with the Dawgs tonight. Down 18, we did not give up and made a game of it. We're going to win a lot of MVC games with this kind of effort.
If Steffe 0-4 and Hensley 1-5 start scoring and we shoot FTs and cut down on the 18 TOs, we can be tough to beat in the MVC. Doubt we'll play an MVC team with a D as good as OSU.
Nagy: we shot over 50% and out rebounded them. TOs and FTs killed us. We had 4 or 5 guys that didn't play very well.
Discouraged last game but encouraged by some things tonight. We should have won this game. We have guys that care and the ones who didn't play well are sick about it. I really like our kids. Our guys played hard. We can clean the other stuff up.

One thing I can say about Nagy compared to past regimes, post game he really seems to know exactly what the team did well and what they didn't and what needs to fixed - the kind of objectivity you would usually expect only after analyzing film of the game. That's great and I think that's what experience gets you.
Looking ahead to North Dakota State on Monday, they start 2 6-10 guys. Things aren't going to get any easier on that front.
Nagy’s honesty and openness is so refreshing. Bryan thought he was guarding family recipes in interviews and Barry wanted to sell you the recipe. Nagy just tells you if he likes the food or not, and why.
I must say that I am absolutely thrilled that a blow out did not occur. Very proud of the manner of which this team stayed composed and together after getting down by 20! I really like this team, and the improvements each game this staff is making bodes well for the future. Hope to meet up with fellow Salukis at various venues through out this season.
GO DAWGS!!!

Elite post.

agree...and he really understands what he just saw
I was fairly encouraged overall. The first half effort was great. Second half, they got hot from 3, and combined with their athleticism inside and too many turnovers throughout, it was gonna be an L.
Mayo, Hensley and Steffe are really scuffling. Have to think at least 1-2 of them will turn things around, and that should help.
The PG depth is an issue though: when it looked like Elliott was seriously hurt, you saw the season potentially in major peril. Are they committed to redshirting Sharp? Seems like there should be a role for him.
You can see that Nagy has no insecurities. And he just reacts to the game.
Good and bad all around. A lot unknown. The constant North Star to the season may be sharpening mower blades. I’m go to do that, especially when we play Murray. Perhaps buy a seatbelt for the couch and buckle in for the ride this season. Props for covering the spread
Nagy said in the pregame interview "We have 10 guys eligible to play". We played 10 guys. That means Sharp, Bey and Weber weren't going to play. Weber is a definite redshirt. It was obvious he needs seasoning and isn't ready. Either both Sharp and Bey are also redshirting as sophomores or there is some external reason as to whey they aren't "eligible".I was fairly encouraged overall. The first half effort was great. Yeah, would be good to get clarity there. Certainly would be unconventional to redshirt two sophomores.
And if you had an injury or two depth could be a major issue if three guys are redshirting overall.
Ok St played their best game of the year and it wasn't even close. If they played the way they played against St Thomas we win. Saw a lot of encouraging things tonight and saw some frustrating things. Davis, Dibba and Elliott are ballers. Sykes has shown me much more recently too. He has elite rebounding skills. Like someone said if he was more of an outside threat he would be all conference. Steffe is getting beaten badly on defense by more athletic guards. The Mayo who played against us last year needs to show up, he has definitely underperformed so far. Aligbe's potential is significant. He has gone up against a couple huge, elite centers in 2 of our games which will help him develop more quickly. He is definitely showing flashes. I really like Massey. He is a freak athlete who will be undersized playing the 5 all year. He has shown nice moves around the basket and will end up being a plus rebounder. Hensley need to shoot well to be an asset. His defense is just average at best. To me Moreno has improved every game. He will never be our best center because he is too slow, but I think he is slowly figuring out how to use his size to his benefit. I like the fact we are going 10 deep considering how fast we are playing. I wonder if Nagy is going to cut it down to 8 or 9. If so, it's going to be Steffe and Moreno that lose their minutes.
Last sophomore I remember redshirting was Brad Korn, but maybe i'm forgetting someone.Nagy said in the pregame interview "We have 10 guys eligible to play". We played 10 guys. I believe I said it last year - I don't post much, but Kennard Davis to me, still has the archetype of Jrue Holiday if he can just improve a few things. But the way he moves and hustles is reminiscent.
Neither are super above the rim athletes. But also can bring the ball up or play off ball. I don't know if he's going to develop the shooting stroke to do it. But this team is fun to watch and can be dangerous.
