Nagy said in his press conference that his timeout usage is gonna drive us nuts and that’s stuck with me watching games so far.  Always seems a play or two late with timeouts

I liken this to playing a schedule that's probably tougher than this team should have, which is to make this team tougher down the road in conference and specifically in February and March.  He is allowing his team, or at least try, to work through the runs other teams are making.  I am guessing that later in the season, he will be calling timeouts sooner than he is now.

No, when he left Wright State folks on their fan board were complaining about his unorthodox style of not calling TO's when other coaches usually do.

I really like Nagy so far. He seems to have a better idea of rotations at this early point in the season than either of the two previous regimes have had. He just seems more game-savvy, if that makes sense.

I hope he continues to be open to trying multiple guys--I'm uncomfortable with the eight-man--and ONLY eight-man--rotation.

I don't feel that I'm being bullshitted (so far) by him. I like that.

We made a P5 team, at their place, tremble a bit. And he didn't try to oversell that, and he didn't throw anyone under the bus.

OK, I'm rambling now, but so far, so good with Nagy. I am confident in his ability to get the best out of the group he's got.

Agree particularly with this point. To expand on this further, I'm really liking his willingness to allow the freshman to play through mistakes versus burying them on the bench. You can see the talent in both Steffe and Aligbe. That should pay off big time later in the season.

Oh man, thanks for this observation! I just rewatched (most of) the game, and I paid attention to that, having read your post. You are right: there is no (so far) InstaHook with Nagy. I think he's wanting guys to learn: he will talk about it with them rationally while watching film, maybe. Hope it continues.

I would have been (slightly) less annoyed by "InstaHook" if it had been applied across the board, but it wasn't under the two previous coaches: some players would get yanked immediately for a boneheaded play, and others wouldn't. It drove me nuts.

Nagy might well wind up with a similarly irrational doghouse at some point, but so far I haven't seen it, and that is refreshing.

Early days though . . . 😄
