@cowboydawg

Yes, I got that impression too ("players are getting to know each other better").

Benson looked good on the offensive end but he looks like a Freshman on the glass and on defense.  No idea what Northwestern was teaching him for 3 years.

Mullins should consider playing two low post players at the same time.  SIU is getting crushed on the boards and playing the combo of 1 big and 4 wings/guards isn't getting it done.  Doesn't hurt to experiment at this point.

I guess the problem is that Dembele isn't ready to see serious minutes?

Did you see him the other night? Four fouls in like nine minutes. Ouch.

Still, that's how Bola started too...I'll trust Mullins on this one; guessing he's not ready.

Thanks to all the posters describing the game progress and the great post-game summaries and discussion - this thread somewhat makes up a bit for kind of forgotting about the game being on TV this afternoon.

…..

OK, I'll stop blathering, but not before pointing this out: Whenever I was on this site during the game, the board stats consistently showed something like the following: 8 members online, 12 guests. Last year, this place was a ghost town for the most part. Maybe that's the best thing to come out of all this.

20?  Is that all?

Give it time - I think as the season progresses and the team starts to improve; the word will get out and the numbers will improve on here....the future is bright.

Go Dawgs!

Felt sorry for Cook. He loves to play in front of his home town.If he had played the game might have been a toss up. Jones and Cook alternating would have kept Jones from wearing down though he played really well. Announcer said Cook told him he would be ready about mid January. I was hoping for 1st week in January.

Didn't see all of the game, but I thought Lance Jones was impressive. Made some great passes, some great drives. Not surprised though. I saw him play in the State Championship and knew we were getting a good one! Domask played well also. Wish we had more depth.

The freshman are going to be good. Big upgrade in talent. Just need some wings and lost players. They are outmanned down low.

wouldn’t hurt to have some step up and hit an outside shot.

I think Mullins likes to run a four-guard offense.  We may not see two post players.

Mullins out-coached Ford.  I love Mullins going past half-court to coach up the defense.

Have patience people.  The future is bright.

I have enough patience to wait until next season to see some significant improvements.  Again though, this team needs bigger and stronger players.  The spring signing period will tell me a LOT about what to expect for next season.  If they're playing 4/5 guards at a time next year with another middle man who is not a strong rebounder, you'll see a lot of the same issues next season.  Rebuilding or not, it is beyond painful to watch teams get offensive rebound after offensive rebound.

Don't forget that we already signed two more guards. We have just two remaining.  It will be interesting to see how he uses those two.

I was at the game tonight and like many have already said, the future is bright. Domask is a stud already, and if he stays for four years he’s going to be a POY candidate when he’s a Junior/Senior. Kid can straight up score...defense still needs work but he’s pretty polished on the offensive end, and I say again, he’s a Freshmen!

Jones looked lightning quick with the ball. Needs to finish better at the rim and make better decisions with the ball (too many turnovers), but he’ll get better with time. He also needs a bit of work on D but overall pretty solid.

McGill disappeared for large stretches of that game...can’t happen when you are the lone senior in the backcourt. He just had an off game.

Benson looked good in the first half, but had a poor second half, especially on the defensive end. French ate him alive in the paint. Definitely need some quality bigs in this next class (hopefully at least one JUCO or transfer b/c we are extremely thin there right now.

Overall pleased with the effort especially from a not full strength team. Looking forward to the future.

Definitely impressed with our freshman and how the team came into St. Louis ready to play.  That is reason for optimism for future.  Just need to keep those heads up and play through what will be a tough conference season and hope to get some Juco and/or transfer inside presence for next year.  French killed us in 2nd half

I agree.  I just hope Mullins is capable of adapting to the strengths and weaknesses of the team.  If he's totally married to the 4 guard offense, that's not a good thing and it's limiting based on the current state of this team.
